400 Polaris will have alot more power if you do some good porting on the motor,up the compression and all they can be made to have alot of power. plus they are easy to put a axle paddle on.

I had a 400 2 stroke polaris and it was a badarse little bike.  It was a 2x4, but it would pull the front tires up all day long.  I think it would overpower the honda any day!

man build that polaris those bikes had a huge set of gonads.  By buddy had one built and bored.  that thing was an animal you will have to get you some custom driveshafts made though cause you will crack them everytime.  when that power band kicks in it all over with but the crying.  he had some edl's on his man that thing would throw some chunks.

Man the polaris 400 2 stoke will have lower gearing and 5x the power of that honda, spin 29.5s and pull the front tires all day long and alot more GC, plus there are lots of hop up parts for the motors and alot of clutch kits. oh and axle paddles or so easy to make for them it aint funny.

polaris 400 for sure. you can get at least 100hp out of those engines. all you need to have a 4" lift is some scrambler front struts. you can do whatever you want with the rear since its chaindrive.

Most people have not been around here long enough to know what real SP400 2 strokes could do back in the day.  If you had a Sp400 2 stroke with axle paddles and 28's there was no competition out there.  Richie and Waylon mainly started them in south La.  They can be geared low enough to turn the biggest tire but also tuned up to have HIGH HP.  Theres never an end to them things.

Those 400's were something way back when, but it was still a Polaris and they were twice as unreliable as they are now (that's saying something). If I were to build up and old school project it would be a 350 Fourtrax/Foreman. Most people have no clue about them, thinking they are your typical Honda. Geared like tractors and the motors produced a lot of torque, no doubt could spin 28" tires stock or with very few mods. The motors have a lot of potential, they share a lot in common with the ATC350X motors and all of the aftermarket parts available to increse the performance of the 350X will work in the 350 Fourtrax/Foreman. They were pretty much bulletproof, only real problem was the fuel pump (it was electronic and was prone to failure) and the starters would go out the odd time. I had one before I bought the Rincon and wish I never sold it, but I had to in order to buy the Rincon, can't have everything. It was your typical old Honda with the typical old story with it. It had about a million miles and ran like the day it was new.

I would second Mac on the Honda 198 350 Fourtrax/Foreman. It is a basic built, rough riding atv that was **** near bullitproof.
My cousin had one for 8 years. All it did was work, work, and work somemore. Used primarily for towing wood. In the winter, if the trail was broken right, iot would pull more wood in one load, than a 1978 16 HP Olympic and a 1980 Enticer 250 put together.

Those Polaris 400's were really something performance wise, but their reliability was just stupid. I had owned 3 different Polaris models in the past, and all 3 spent more time in my garage than out. I was always spending money on them. Something needed replacement or maintenance done to it after EVERY ride.

Again, I would get the oldschool honda 350 fourtrax on this one. It rides like a tank...hauls like Clydesdale....and keep running like, well, it runs like a Honda.....

only thing about the 350 is you cant lift it more than 2" if that and the most gc you can get out of it is 10-12" with 29.5's
