heres my opinion...  im repossession agent for the stae of LA...  remember this:  the economy is falln.  since u r just stating buy a used 1...  when buying a used bike go to kelly blue book and see what the trade n value is...  if that person wants a good bit less than trade value that would be something to look at...  i repo harley all the time...  very very nice bikes. u can make that fat boy look way different... the radar is a very nice bike...  the shadow is something u should run a kelly blue book on... jmop     let me tell yall about all finance co..     once the lender buys u at a certain percent, the dealer tax on a couple more just so they can make that much more on u...  so if ur intrest is 8, ur lender prolly bought u from around 5...  this a fact...   u should really look n the paper to look at alot of bikes... also dont buy a bike that dont fit u ...  i repo more bikes that ppl thought they would eventually fit the bike and never due...  if it dont fell right it never will... just remember that ur a first timer and dont exceed ur riding ability..  last thing,  a harley is more expensive to maintain than any other bike, and thats b/c its american made...  an oil change is normally aroud 50 bucks..

I like the raider... a buddy of mine has a black one and its a sweet bike!  Sounds good too!

IMO a harley is a waste of money for the name

Since it's your first bike, you need to find something used to make sure it is for you.  There is no way that I would start out on a brand-new 1900cc bike when I had never owned one before.

I'm partial to Harleys but I've had a couple of Yamaha Roadstars too....great bikes and easy to work on but way too much power for a new rider.
Start out with a little smaller, used bike that way if you want to upgrade or get rid of it, you've not taken the depreciation hit from as new one.

If someone was asking a good bit less, I'd sure look at it but would be leary as well.  Just something to keep your eye out for.

jwmullins79;  ^^ meanin a few hundred dollars not thousands...  that is why i also said ur bike is something to look at...  i see all of ur acc. on the bike..  u have to understand that if he buys something used, that he will only be keeping the bike foe 6mnths to a year for then he will get the bike that he really wand and would never want to lay down...   he also would be trading this bike in and wouldnt want to loose a whole lot of money on this bike...  but this is only my opinion...

I can see those points as well, wasn't sure though what you was gettin at by sayin the shadow would validate a KBB check.  If I wasn't sure exacty what ya was gettin at, possibly it would be confusing for someone else as well.  So was just clerifying, not tryin to start an arguement.  I've been ridin this one for bout 2 years, and for what I got it for it's great.  Was my 2nd bike.  Would keep it if it wasn't for the milage I/we are needing to cover now.

fatboys are a great choice, picked my 2005 fatboy up way under bluebook value with only 3000 miles on it.  here are some before and after pictures of what i did with it, also remember a brand new bike looses a ton of value right out the door,  "let someone else take that hit, buy used"  and a brand new bike will not have as much chrome and stuff availible so you will always be waiting for something new to come out, unlike an older bike.  hope this helps

Personally I ain't fond of the "Chopper look" to the raider, however if it rides anything like that Stratoliner does, it'll be a great bike.  I test rode one of them the week they came out.  Great bike.  Engine throttle response, transmission, and over all ride was just awesome.  If the raider rides the same, you'll love the bike.

starting out on a smaller bike w/ a cruiser?    never heard that when it comes to cruisers.... I could understand it when your talking about crotch rockets....... but I started with the biggest fastest on the market in 2005.... first bike ever.... rode a 600 like 2 miles the night before I bought it and knew it wasnt enough bike

**** im in the same boat as you....Im looking into getting a motorcycle by the end of the year. My father has owned motorcycles his whole life and now he has the 2008 Goldwing. Ive always been around the motorcycle scene but never really got the interest until recently. All he talks about his is bike and how much he loves them. So im gonna surprise him one of these days and show up at his house on a new bike. Im like you i dont want anything fancy as a harley...and i feel that anything over 1000cc is too much for a beginner. Ive got my eyes on a Kawasaki 900 custom and the yamaha Vstar 950...Im 26 years old and my tatse on style is a bike with a low seat, big fancy wheel in the front and a nice wide tire in the rear...nothing too chopperish if thats a word but something a little custom. The suzuki boulevards and intruders seems to be geared towards the crowd 45 years and older or at least thats the age range i see...Lastly my price range is under 8000$ so that if io do lose interest over the years i dont have a ton of loss when trying to sell...There are used harleys all around this area decked out for 20,000 plus dollars...also this is the best time of year to purchase with the colder months comming on...Now the dealerships are turning focus torwards atvs since its deer season and the bikes are usually at better prices...

Here is the yamaha Vstar 950

Here is the kawasaki 900 custom

A 600 wasn't enough bike for you! LOL You need to slow your roll man before something bad happens! LOL

Anyway get a used bike bro. That 1900 is gonna be big heavy and very touchy on the trottle. For a first bike I would say 1300ccs would be my cap. All the jap bikes are pretty good. The VTX, Vstar, Vulcan, Boulavard, they are all outstanding bikes.

Dollar for dollar you can't beat a raider. Would be my first choice if I was going to get a cruiser. You can't beat the reliability of a metric bike. Just do your research. Or you can always put in your order for the VMax!

I have a Yamaha Roadstar Warrior - its the 1700cc sport cruiser.  In my opinion it is one of the best bikes made.  I have riden them all, honda, hardley, suzuki, polaris...  none of them have compared yet to the overall feel of the Warrior.  The Raider is built on the same platform as the Warrior with a larger motor - you really cant go wrong.  There is no way that I would have wanted to learn to ride this bike, it is too much for a beginner.  Get a used bike that you dont care as much about and ride it for a year first...  then when you drop it you are not that pissed
