not sure the deal, the 50 is thicker, and maybe they want a thicker oil in it, my KTM supermoto runs 10W-60

i would still run 0W-40 oil in it

The manual for my 2008 calls for 0W-40, and I'm glad, as I like using AMSOIL 0W-40 Powersports oil in mine.

Polaris only makes one kind of oil now. It's PS-4 Plus 2w50.My X2 and my outlaw both call for it in the manual.

I agree. I've heard of very few (if any) Polaris engine failures related to lubrication issues. I bet there are thousands and thousands and thousands of Polaris quads running 0W-40 with no problems.

Wouldn't surprise me if Polaris came out with the 2W-50 or 02-50 (or whatever it is) recommendation to steal back some of the sales from Mobil 1, AMSOIL, Rotella, and others.

Just checked my manual and dealer catalog again.PS-4 is different than PS-4 Plus.PS-4 was designed for outlaw 500 and predator(manual gearbox).Polaris came out with PS-4 Plus(2w50) to simplify oil changes so they all use the same oil.

yeah i seen it in the manuals, but my dealer has a big oil chart, explaining the uses for what machines of the PS4 and PS4 Plus, and it says 0W-50 on it, which makes more sense to me, however they did put in their manuals that it is 2W-50, i'll have to snap a pic of the polaris oil chart at my dealer next time i'm there

anyways, you are right, according to my dealer, the PS4 plus is for use any any polaris 4 stroke

Economically speaking, that makes sense, and all the more reason for me to stick with my AMSOIL 0W-40 PowerSports oil.   The 50W oil is much to thick for my liking in all but the most extreme hot conditions.

I'lll double check but I'm pretty sure the bottle says 2w50. I think you dealer's chart has a typo maybe. I picked up enough for 2 changes when i bought the XP. Once that is gone I'll run Mobil or Amsoil 0w40.
On a side note the4 oil filter for my 800 was the same as for my Nissan Titans, which is nice. hopefully the 850 is the same. Now I just need to find a decent spark plug for the 850,Polaris went to a Champion plug that isn't even listed and doesn't appear to cross to any other brand. I think it is all a way to keep people buying products from Polaris.
