well my truck has been in the shop for about 2 weeks now and they have tried everything that makes sense and nothing worked.  it is running ROUGH and has absolutely no power.  The mechanic thinks that I need a new computer.  So my question is can I get one from one of the companys that do the custom tunes?  Id like to get better performance while I'm gettin the new computer.

Also Im planning on hollowing out my cats because one is gettin clogged and I cant afford some new ones.  So will I have to get the computer set for that?

Also where would yall suggest getting the custom tune from?

I'm guessing this is a newer model Chevrolet?

I know Jesse at Wait4MePerformance.com can send you a custom tuned PCM, I think he charges around $157? I tune on the side but do not keep any spare PCM's.

Maybe it'll work, you should notice a nice difference with that tune. I drive an 02' Avalanche as well, I've spent a little while tuning mine and it doesn't too run bad considering how big and heavy it is!

a W4M tuned PCM is $158.10 I think.

Its not the best tune avaliable and dont be surprised if it is very dirty when it arrives and looks like junk, as I have seen in a few cases on FSC.

It should perform decently, but keep in mind its a budget tune.

I wouldn't call it a budget tune, it's just very fair priced. Jesse can tune with the best of them, when he WANTS to..he stays so busy and sometimes he'll slip up. I've had a not so good experience with him once, but it wasn't too serious so I didn't bother him a lot about it. He's a cool guy and knows his stuff, but sometimes can be a bit of a smart***, just have to look past it.

I would never pay more than $250 for a mail order tune, well knowing what I know now about tuning I wouldn't pay near that..but I've also spent over $1,000 in software. Anyone who spends $400+ on a mail order tune from places like Nelson or Westers is getting ripped, they don't do anything special..trust me, I've looked at them!

I agree for the most part, one day Id like to invest in some sort of EFILive program to tune my own truck and mabye some others on the side.

it must be nice to have the ability to adjust shift points, timing and fuel octane with little to no hassle.

Are you getting an 87 octane tune? I'd say around 20 hp, it'll be a noticable gain. The shifts should feel firm and quick, not too hard or sloppy. It should keep pulling through the shifts, not fall off like a stock truck with a lot of torque management does.

You should get a little better gas mileage too, if you keep your foot out of it!

Yea I'm stickin with the 87 octane tune.  Im not shure if I'll be able to stay out of it for a little while...but then I'll settle down and see my mpg gains.  Will the tune allow me to powerbrake?  Not bein able to really aggrivates me sometimes.  I like the smell of burnin rubber on occassion!
