out Im on the verge of cracking a piston or blowing a hole in one due to running over 2,000* of EGT all season.
soooo,.....
the motor is coming out.
Heres whats going in.
Mahle Cast pistons from trippin which feature a lubricity coating on the skirts, thermal coating on the tops and a remachined bowl all by him.  Cost $2,300.  Why no forged pistons you may ask?? Not streetable they are not designed for the rigors of dailr driving.
Carrillo rods, yep the bad boys.  THeyre expensive but worth it since I wanna do it right.  The cost $3,125.
Trippins billet main caps.  For extra protection. Cost $600 plus machining.
Clevite H bearings from trippin.
ATI superdamper from trippin. Cost $440.
Billet flex plate. Brand undecided.
The whole rotating assembly will be balanced and blueprinted for 5,000RPM.
Head studs and fire rings will keep the heads on and as for cylinder head mods I am yet undecided.  If I get enough sponsor money stage II heads from trippin will o on, if not I may build them myself with few parts from him.
Camshaft will be a HOT keyed puling camshaft from trippin as $912.
Air will be Nathans MPI twins.
Fuel will be Some sort of Twin CP3 system at a minimum price of $2,800
Injectors will hopefully be F3s if they ever get the LB7 ones made.
Billet injector clamps will help keep them seated.
thats about what I can remember, as you can see it will be expensive. I may be forgetting some things too. Tonite alone I scraped up $3,000 in sponsor money.
More later.

uh, you wont need half of the stuff I need.  The Cummins internals are very very strong and will take alot of abuse. IIRC there is a 1,500hp puller that has arias pistons, ARP main studs and thats it.

The Dmax needs rods after 600hp and the pistons arent too happy then either. Around 8-900hp they start to have main cap issues.

there was an internet posting that showed a block that cracked right across the center main ...

almost looked like the block "cracked in half" ...

said at 800 hp the max block breaks ...

I DIDN'T PUT MUCH STOCK IN THE PHOTO / POST!!!

what hp are you looking for ?

what tranny mods?

i'm gonna put a dual cp3 on my friends '03 pretty soon ...

post your results ...

only select Dmaxes will break at 800hp. There are plenty over 800hp and 3 that i know of over 1,000hp. one is over 1,100hp. These are daily drivers as for full out competition trucks there are more.

If you build it properly it will last it is a fairly stout motor. The coolest thing is how well the heads stay on. A et of properly torqued ARP2000 head studs will keep the head on till 900hp then ARP Custom 625s will keep it on for power above and beyond. No fire ringing or o ringing needed and the stock gaskets work great. For now.

Shooting for 800hp this year. Next year Im digging deeper with bigger CP3s, even bigger injectors and a wild homemade twin turbo setup with new home fabbed and designed parts from the exhaust ports to the intake ports.

Also looking to add Stage II heads and maybe a stroker kit next year.

As for my tranny mods. I have a Suncoast stage IV ith a 1055 converter. For those who dont know that converter has a 2600RPm stall speed so its great for spooling up big turbos. I also have a mag hytec deep pan and filter lok.

Heres what else is going in it.

Mike L C3 oiler
Mike L Billet C2 hub and planet
Suncoast Billet Input and output shafts
Suncoast Boost modifier Valve
ATS Co-Pilot
And a Banks Billet Flex plate. Why Banks, simple the ATS plate sucks as you cannot use it with aftermarket torque converters. Not only that but the ATS plate requires you to machine into the flex plate itself for balancing the motor, the Banks comes with a balancing weight and you simply machine off as much material as you need to get everything balanced.

Thats the trans. Not much else you can add to them to make them any better. But mike has one last trick up his sleeve.

What other mods does your freind have?? A turbo comes before Twin CP3s and of course the tranny comes before both.

Whose kit are you running??

I will be running MDEs DIY CP3 Kit which costs $650, all thats left to do is buy a CP3, make the brackets and make the high pressure line.
I will be running a Stock LBZ pump on it which I picked up for $425. So I will have around $1100 in my Twin CP3 kit.
