Well I gotta new belt just before turkey day. Got it on & got my leak fixed. It was the belt housing so it is good and sealed. Got down to Red Creek Fri. & Got out riding. Still didn't to seem to have the power. Someone got stuck in a hole & I pulled down to winch them out. And the ol' Grizz wouldn't even back out the hole. I had no power. Well figured it was my filter cause I seen it was dirty. Well it was. I pulled the pre-filter back & it acted a lil better. Well I dove off in a hole & I went no where. I had a lil black smoke come from my belt exaust. Not much.  I just don't have the power anymore. I am going to pull everything down. Do my valve adj. Compression test. I am also going to check carb for any clogs & vent lines. This makes me sick. I am wondering if when I ran w/o oil for a 100 feet after fixing the wet clutch leak that I had has finally gotten me????    Also I posted a question a week or so ago. About the black spring in the HL kit. Should I get a stiffer spring. I have 28" Laws that I just put on. Tell me what you guys think.

Sounds like your belt may be slipping. Toward the end of my ride this weekend, my belt snorkels began to leak somewhere. I was sitting in water waiting for someone to get outta the way. When he did I could barely go anywhere until I was able to drain the belt housing and let the belt dry. The black smoke outta your exhaust snork was probably your belt burning from slipping.

I have no leaking now. I wasn't even in any water. My housing was bone dry.

Maybe you should check the belt to see if its within spec. Was it an OEM belt you just put on? Did you replace the secondary spring? I was thinking the EPI orange was the best secondary spring. Whatever the cause, sounds like a belt slip to me. Also when you fixed the wet clutch leak did you have oil on the belt or sheaves?

I just put a new OEM belt on. But that was after the primary oil leak. So the belt is fresh. I cleaned the sheaves pretty good I guess. I used purple power & wash & cleaned both sheaves. Scraped all the old gasket off & put the right gasket on from Yama. The black spring came with the kit. The first time I rode with it after the first attempt on the clutch kit it did ok. But Yama gave me the wrong gasket & we did the job on a Sun. So I had it all broke down. The guy that did the kit works for a tractor company & had put a high temp gasket maker that they use to seal it. Well it leaked. So I was back at sqaure one. I just don't like that black spring that came with the kit. That is the one I put on with the kit. I think i am going to get the orange spring & try it to.

I think the EPI orange was supposedly the stiffer spring. If you do a search there were several post about it. I would search for "orange spring" & see what you get. Did you ever smell rubber burning? While I was having wet issues I could only smell burning rubber one time & real quick. Was you engine bogging down at all? or you just had no power at the wheels?

I didn't smell any burning rubber. It was just a small bit of smoke. I felt like the engine was bogging down as well. That's why I am pulling my carb vents tonight & see if anything is in there. It didn't feel like it had anything on the wheels. When i was winching the guy out. I wasn't even an mud. Wasn't hooked up yet & was trying to back up the small hill in the mud hole. Just started bogging.

Was the engine cutting out or sputtering?

1. Ok guys I finally got into it a lil tonight so far. I think I found a vent line clogged from the carb. The one that has the longer stock vent from where it tee's. Gonna chase that down. Its seems to have more power now. But I noticed something when I got it warmed up. I had the side plastics off & the seat. And there is smoke coming exhaust right under my airbox. Nothing is melting. It is coming out of the exhaust pipe itself. But not the tip of the exhaust. What's up with that?

2.  Have a question on the vent line from the carb. I guess I had figured one of the lines from the tee already ran. (the longer one) Went to the the hood. Which I thought I vented . Well I found that it wasn't. Can I just run 1 vent from that TEE and do away with one of those lines? Or do I need to run both vent lines from that tee up my snorkel?

Nope no sputtering. But it has hard to start lately. Now that I pulled the vent line out. It starts right up.

Ok. So I checked some more post. And I plugged one line of the T up & ran the vent thru the other up my snork. It seems to be running ok now. I won't know till I can get it in a mudhole. I am still gonna take out the black secondary spring & replace it with an orange. BUt as far as running in the back yard. I think I may have my power back. Still not for sure what the smoking from the pipe was.

You can plug the short line. I did away with the TEE for a while & had no problems, but was suggested I put the TEE back & put a check valve on the hose that is aimed toward the bottom. Reason is, if you ride a water wheelie or climb at a steep angle, gas will need to drain out or it will go in your airbox. I picked one up at advanced auto for a couple dollars.

K well I have a question. I plugged the longer line & vented the shorter one. Does that matter? I am fixing to search for the check valve mods that are on here for the carb drain.

It dont matter, it will do the same thig either way. I would suggest one line from the TEE going up to the snorkel & the other with a check valve to hang lower than the carb. You should be ready.
