I hear a lot about the laws not being great for trail riding.  Why is that?

They wear kind of quick but the 29.5 ride the best. I trail ride mine all the time but I ride mud too.

They are fine on the trails. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. I sadly spend more time on the trails than I do in the mud. They wear decent and ride quality wasn't sacraficed at all, unless you cruise around at less than 5 mph but anything over 5mph and they are just as smooth as anything else out there.

I ride mine on trails. I do notice that they grip good all around... sometimes maybe too much. No need for 4wd pretty much anytime but it helps keep some of the stress off the rear end due to the excessive grip. they ride fine, can`t notice them.

Look at them, do they look like a great trail tire?

no, but they still perform well.  expecially 27's, 29's and 31's.

You can ride them on trails, its not like the bike will be struck by lightning and burn to the ground if you try it. Its just that its not going to be as enjoyable as riding with an actual trail tire. Mud tires tend to wander from side to side on trails and they throw up rocks, dirt and sod into whoever the poor guy riding behind you is. I trail ride quite a bit with my MudZilla's and a buddy of mine had no problems trail riding with 29.5 Laws.

The outlaws work "well" for trail riding, I trail mine. The outlws are a purpose built tire and grip like crazy, this is just my opinion but the "best" alround tire is the MST (smooth, light) and the "best" mud tire is the 29.5"/31" outlaws (dig, paddle, and smooth enough to trail ride). Believe me i have had a ton of different tire combos including bugs, mudzillas, mudlites and now the outlaws.

thanks for the info guys i always wondered that. i know that they dont ride as good as my vamps do on trails and hardpack but as stated above the 27" and the 29.5 i hear ride the smoothest out of the outlaw lineup. never heard of the 31s. but looking at the tread on them i can see why i thought that they looked flat.
