What would be the effects of completely capping off your belt exhaust vent as opposed to snorkeling it?

Im asking because i've just joined the military and will be shipping out to basics shortly. I'm not trying to tie to much money into the bike just yet for the fact of not knowing where i will be stationed and if the bike will be coming with me. I went riding last weekend and just so happened to notice the belt exhaust vent was not placed very well. Everytime i would pop a water wheeley or the back end would go down in the water my belt box would be nice and full after. So i had the smart idea to just cap it off and solve the problem, sooo the question is.... what would be the effects of completely capping off your belt exhaust vent as opposed to snorkeling it?

you will burn the clutch/belt up. it has to be able to draw cool air and circulate, and then exhaust it.

This may not be so! Solitude had accidently blocked off his belt exhaust for bout a year or so, with no ill effects that he could find!  I wouldn't recommend it, but according to him(Brett), his King ran like that for a good lil while. Who knows. I wouldn't be that lucky, my King would've caught on fire & burnt me &/my house! Go figure  Good luck & later                       Brandon

It is true. I did block off the belt exhuast for prolly a year or a lil under, at that time I didnt really know anyone since I didnt see anyone snorkle a King Quad. But! I didnt have any problems. My belt cover never got to hot, never slipped, never smoke, never broke, nothing, ran fine. So you can try it it you want or its easy now to just run it up.

Alright cool, well i understand engine heat and friction being why the belt would get hot, BUT i remember pulling the belt housing off before and there was no fan or anything to circulate the air in the box. I just assumed they put two vents on there because 2 vents were better than one. or who knows. other than that as long as air can get in and out of that one vent i didnt see a problem with blocking off the back vent is why i did what i did. So i dont know. Thats good to know solitude, i think i am going to try it for a while ad see how it works out.

i wouldn't seal it off.  put your atv in neutral have someone give it gas for you and put your hand by your cvt exhaust and tons of air comes out.  intake sucks in cooler air and exhaust pushes out air.  glad nothing broke on brett's but i wouldn't do it.

There is a fan on it that pulls the air in. Its the backing plate on the Primary. Also I wouldnt do it. Its pretty simple to run it up.
