Well guys/gals after much consideration and thought on my next wheeler..I've just about decided to go with an AC 500m instead of the Rincon 680..just wanted some opinions on the bike. Reason for choosing the 500m is I don't want an auto (belt) drive..no hate towards them, just not me. Thanks!

a/c's don't have belt problems. guaranty you got the 700 H1 the belt would be the last thing on your mind. plus when something goes in the tranny you don't gotta replace gears just a belt (woot!). you should give it a try. belt drives aren't new tech. these belt drives have been used in the snowmobiles for decades. thoroughly tested out. they work great.

I hate my v2 belt set up, but it's a Kawasaki.  The Arctic cat belt drives are just as dependable as any manual shift made.  Maybe even more so.  Definatley funner to ride.  Arctic Cat, Suzuki, and Yamaha all use kind of the same set up.

I've just been on too many rides with buddys that ended too soon becuase of belts slipping..shredding and what not..idk..I don't mind the belt, but also I like the reliabillity of the manual..I know the power of the big bores in unreal..but it's a hard choice..

ahh, but did your buddies have cat's? it's all good man. it's all about you getting what you want. but sooner or later your gonna wish you had got a bigger bore. i.ve had an '07 700 e.f.i. & now have a 700 H1. zero belt issues w/both. like i said, if something breaks it's a lot easier to replace a belt than a tranny gear.

and if you get one and keep talking on here you'll be modding it out anyway. and they are getting easier and cheaper to mod. so you'll be in there with the belt anyhow to check up on it. not that you will need to replace it or anything....

I had a 500iM for the exact same reason, belts suck in my mind.  The Honda is a better bike but the tranny on the Rinny stinks, no engine braking and geared way to high.  Wait a couple of weeks and find out what Honda is releasing.

I came from a honda also and I also was weary of belt trannys, boy was I wrong. I bolted 29.5 laws up to my bone stock H1 and never slipped the belt once even in the thickest florida mud. As stated before, yammy, suzuki, and AC all have constant tention belt systems that dont slip and require no maintainence. The only way these will slip is if you fill the tranny with water which really wont matter cause your carb and motor will also be full of water. Stock carb and tranny intakes are same height. Kawisaki, can am and polaris have slip and go belt trannys that are notorious for slipping and seem to give all belt trannys bad name because people dont understand the difference. These slip and go trannys perform just fine with big tires but require mods, maintaience, and wrench time.
I'm so glad I dropped my honda and went with the H1. I am now a believer in the constant tention cvt tranny. Good luck with your decision....

On a side note, alot of new vehicles are going to cvt trannys for their constant torque curve meaning always in the right gear for maximal power. Dodge, toyota, nissan, chrysler, jeep, ford, audi, and YES even HONDA uses belt CVT belt transmissions in some of their newer cars and trucks. So you belt hating honda guys should think about that.....

yeap that will do it..lol   there is nother wrong with the 500m its a tuff bike just like the 650/700s are its just the 650/700s are alot faster, but a 500m with the right mods is a mean little quad and will go threw what ever you want it to..

IRS is the way to go and low gearing is a big plus as well..

So basically what I'm getting is..other than going faster..the 500m ( w/ mods of course..) would be  just as good as the 650/700s in the mud??

yeap, the main difference i have found is the ability to carry alot of speed threw the mud, the 500m will be pretty much stuck in 1st or 2nd gear so you can only carry that much speed where a auto can keep picking up speed.

Kinda like in the mud bog races a auto will do better then a manual. but out on the trail just going threw mud holes old ponds and creeks it really makes no difference. when i had my 500 all decked out i went where ever i wanted to pretty much .

I also ride with Sodbuster and he has a 500m with alot of mods and he follows me or i follow him everywhere we ride. we both have one of each and they both have there strong points.

it'll get you through some but you better have gwc's mods or get him to work on it lol. also, since ur comin from honda guess it doesn't bother you to have to find the shifter through mud & water. get what you want man, it's all good. just a lot of people (like me) were very weary of belt drives & basically felt like we were diving into the unsure. just trying to relax some tensions (no pun intended lol) about belts. also a lot of people wish they went bigger. not all. just some since the price isn't usually that much more for more cc's. as i've heard it before: "it's better to have more than you need than need more than you have". not knocking the 500's as i've heard from a lot of people they're almost bullet proof & we all know that there is no such bike in existence.

I would also add if your going to put 29.5s on it i would not do so untill you put 4.0 gears in it, matter of fact if you buy it from Steelhorse's they can put them in for you before you ever leave with it.. the 4.0s take off alot of stress caused buy the big heavy tires. then a EPI clutch kit and a SpeedWerx pipe and dynojet kit and it will be a pretty bad ride.
my 500m never once had the tires stop because of thick mud it would spin them in anything.
there are a number of things you can do to one if you want..
http://www.highlifter.com/forum/setting_up_a_500m%25/m_2644209/tm.htm   few thing to do to one.

Nice..thanks again for that info! GWC, since you have both..of the two which one would be the bike to jump on and ride..without worry. I know snork. , dielectric grease etc..I wouldn't run over 27's on the 500 more than likely..

I would jump on either of them, just depends on what kind of riding i would be doing. there is no worry about the belt on a Arctic cat and the way i have mine clutched its allmost like riding a manual tranny but with no shifting..lol
same bike different motor is all.

27s on the 500m, a good muffler, jet kit and EPI clutch kit and you will be good to go for sure.

i see your thinkin on a 500 but i'de look at the new 550 EFI model and the 700H1,foot shift used to be the thing to have back in the day when companys were trying to get the automatic belt drive systems down pat,but these days they got it right.Auto is the way to go and i wouldn't have it any other way unless i was on a sport bike.

I was a manual only guy back in the day. I owned a 2002 AC 400I 4X4 Manual and thought i would only have manuals from then on. Then I decided to get a big bore and auto was the only way to go. So I decided to try it and now I would not go back to manual again.

I'm lovin my 700H1 but would not hesitate to look at the 550H1 coming out. Either one of these bikes you could just throw on your 27's and go with no mods at all and be very happy. But be forwarned you will get the feaver for 28" or 29.5" tires quick once you have the Cat. With all that fender room just begging for some bigger tires, it is hard to resist.

You guys have me wanting a 700H1...I knew I shouldn't have posted about this..LOL. Here is another question..how are they power, acceleration, and speed wise compared to a Brute 750? I 've ridden a carbed and FI Brute..love the power..but hate the belt setup on those bikes..

Not so much "seat of the pants horsepower", but they have a ton of power and with clutching and gears the 700 H1 should accelerate harder than a BF, but will lose Top Speed. The thing about the H1's is they are pure torque monsters. They will pull any tire you put on them. And the more mods you do the faster they'll spin them in anything. And Like was said above, Do not ever worry about the belt slipping on a H1. Heck I haven't slipped the Tcat belt. And really don't think I will. They have their belt system working!

the 700 H1 is the top shelf choice IMO. i prefer it over a t-cat any day. no SLD!

Here's the link to my belt drive in action. I came from Hondas and always feared the belt drives. I love my auto... I will never go back to manual. Constant tension belt drives are tough, dependable and easy to tune for more power. You will like it... and you will always be looking back to see them Hondas behind you!!!

Go for the 700 Mud Pro!

Anyway, here's the link!
