So I'm taking the brute to get it looked at at the end of the week and just thought I would get on here and play around and see the ideas that are come up with that could be wrong.  I am feeling a slight loss of power, it smokes every now and again, and is burning quite a large amount of oil.  Oh and Saturday I was riding and we hit a wide open strip and it slowly lost more and more power until it was barely sputtering to run a measley 5 mph.  Turned it off let it sit for a few minutes fired it back up and it went back to the slighty power loss.  When I say slight power loss the bike won't run over 25mph and the motor just sounds like it is struggling pretty bad to do that.

Sounds like it needs some new rings.

No I didn't actually.  I was so hung up on it being the rings I didnt even think bout that.  Thanks I will definitly check that when I get the plastics off.  I was just leaning a lot more towards the rings since its burning oil.

Also if I am lucky enough for it to only need rings anyone know a ball park figure on what that should cost?

well i would think it potentially smoke from the unburnt fuel from dropping a cylinder
u said it smoked from time to time. i know it wouldnt have very much power on 1 cylinder.
I think fuel smoke is black. what color is your smoke?

you could have fowled a plug and only one cylinder is firing.  did the same thing to the wife's brute.  the choke was stuck open and just runnin rich rich and fixed it but it was too late for the plug.  change the plugs and see if it runs better.

have you done jetting changes after the snorkels?

and have you ever gotten water in the motor??

No I didn't rejet it after the snorkels but its been done for over a month now and actually seemed to run better right after they were installed.  No as far as I know I have not gotten any water in the motor.  Change the oil very regularly and is never milky or anything.  I understand what ya'll are saying about the plugs but that wouldn't make it burn oil.....I mean I'm putting a quart + at the very least in it after every ride.

it catches the oil the is puked out the crank case vent and lets it drain back into the motor.
