I am leaning towards buying a BF650i I  was wandering how good  the locker is? I have had 3 AC's and they have a lever you flip to lock the front end. I really enjoyed this set up because you could lock it and climb all over the bike to keep the tires down. I have gotten unstuck buy climbing onto the front rack while holding on to the handle bars facing backwards or with on hand on the throttle side of the bars and both feet on the right foot peg. So how easy is the BF locker? do ya"ll like it in techical ridding?   Thanks for the feed back.

It doesn't "LOCK" w/o the "pen-lock" that is aftermaket and holds the yellow lever in place to ensure maximum engagement at all times in 4wd

A lot of guys have and like the pen lock. I don't and love the lever for what I do. I like to know exactly how much i'm locking it up and then unlocking when I'm turning and so on. Different strokes for different folks. I can go a lot of places my can-am buddy can't simply because his has to tun so many times before the front lock up. I like knowing it will be 4wd when I tell it to be.

OK what ya'll are saying makes sence I can see why you would want to slip it a little while turning. Also I bet if you have big tires you will break less axels with the lever.

New question, If you get the pen lock can you pull the lever in without totaly locking it? - do you pull in the lever and then push down the button and it stays in.

Me either lol. . .I try to not ever use the diff lock because to me thats asking for trouble. . .31x11s on the front that was designed to turn what 25x9 all terrains? The way i see it is if you have it in 4wd and not diff locked that will let the front end slip if one of your tires catches a root or something like that.If you have the diff locked all that torque has to go somewhere aand im guessing either an axle or a blown front diff.So thats why i never use the pinn lock. .. .plus i havent needed to.Im not one to just pin the throttle in mud holes,i just let the tires do the work, thats what they were designed to do.but again thats just my opinion. .prolly not worth but a couple cents

another reason people are busting front diffs is getting stuck in 2wd then just flipping the switch into 4wd and giving it he'll when the front end locks in it has to go somewhere. i think doing this is worse than using the diff lock.

yeah thats true to. .if i get stuck in 2wd ill flip the switch and just barly bump the gas until i feel the front wheels lock in then ill give it a little more gas as needed.I cant tell you how many times i have seen somebody do what you said...get stuck in 2wd.flip the switch and floor it and BANG! the front locks in and sounds like a gun went off in the diff or it really did explode in there lol.I guess when people just dont know. . .they just dont know. .hopefully at least one person will learn from this thread and save them alot of money

So if you get stuck in a hole in 2wd....its okay to switch over to 4wd as long as you ease into the gas until the front diff. fully locks in???

yes just flip the switch and ease into the throttle to get it locked up. actually i dont even ease into the throttle i just bump it over until it engages once it engages and the light comes on the lcd display i will bump it a lil more just to make sure it engages on mine you can also feel it engage then i get after it but not until.

better diff control in my eyes, you can conrtol how much your front end locks up, the move pressure means full lock. or you can go limited slip, or full open diff.
if you do get the BF get a penn lock, so you can go full lock with out holding the lever.

ive found that with the power this v-twin puts out, if u cant make it in regular 4wd... back up, and go past half throttle lol, the v twin makes enough power to basically jump through or over what you trying to do lol.
