my buddy is considering upgrading from a foreman to one of the big bores.

He has said that he wouldnt mind getting a grizzly but wanted to look at a rincon as well.  I know that all the different wheelers have there good points and bad even our grizzlys.

I have know that the rincons dont have a locker or a low gear.  I have also heard they dont have the power to turn bigger tires and there is pretty much no engine brake.

We like to ride in mud and he was wanting to put pretty much the same set up as i have in my sig on which ever bike he gets.

He thinks that the rincon would do ok with the 31"s.  He thinks it would go anywhere a grizzly would go if the GC was the same.  What are yalls thoughts on the subject?

He asked me to try to get some info on the two so i thought i would ask the exsperts on HL.

from what ive heard, the only way he will have a  prayer of turnin 31s is to get a gear reduction and a lot of mods.  i really prefer the grizz a LOT more.  but hopefully others with more experience with these 2 bikes will chime in.

thanks for the reply.  If anyone has any exsperiance with the rincon let me know what you think.  Likes and dislikes.  Whould you get the bike again or go another direction?

The grizzlys will run circles around a Rincon. You can put 31's on a Grizzly stock and be fine just as long as you stay out of the really gooie stuff. You put a few mods on the 700 you wont have a problem. Put alot of mods on the Rincon you mite beable to keep up with the 700. The Rincon mite beable to keep up with the Grizzly 550. Dont get me wrong now the Rincon is a fine bike but there 2 diffrent machines. Kinda comparing a 700 to the thundercat.

If he wants to put on 31s he should not look and the Rincon. Its a Great quad no question about it BUT it is not a mud quad it is a trail quad.
He should get the Grizz 700 if he wants to take it mudding..

I agree with yall.  thanks for the replys.

So what you all are saying is the rincon is just really under powered.  I will let him know.

I told him the same thing yesterday but he had trouble beliveing that a 680 and a 686 (700) would have that much diffreance between the two.  The rincons also have ES so why cant you just put it in first for the low gear?

Its not so much its under powered its the fact it does not have a low gear, the low gear it has is not really very low at all compared to other quads.

If it had a low range in the tranny and diff lock it would be a whole different story.

Thats a good question?
Grizzly 700 HP-45.6
Curb Weight-600 lbs
Rincon 680 HP-38.5
Curb Weight-648 lbs
Now thats a big factor between the two. As for the low gear. When you put the 700 in low you can fill the torque, it fills as if you can only go up to about 10 mph, the Rincon is set up like a 3spd tansmisson like a car. you start off in 1st and end in 3rd. 1st gear is not set up like a low gear. Its hard to explain.

tell him to wait for the 09 hondas to come out before he purchases a grizzly.. yeah i said purchase a grizzly! only reason being is honda hasnt given us honda riders any hope of a low gear and locker in the rincon but the big red did get a locker and its an 09 model with same engine and tranny as the rincon. get this, it tops out @ 39 so the big red has some low gears somewhere! i say just wait for the 09 honda lineup to come out in september and if honda doesnt impress,  definately get the grizz! jmo

i have a rincon and i HAD a 660 griz, and i will tell you the rincon will NEVER turn 31" tires even w/ a gear reduction and all the mods you can add. but the rincons belt will NEVER slip like the grizzes WILL, so ask your self do you want to ride back on 27's or be pulled back on 31's

You can think of it like that. But Yamaha's Grizzly has perfected its belt. Would you rather replace a 100 dollor belt? or transmission?

a Rincon just can't stay up with a Grizzly in the mud.  the Rincon is a great trail bike, but it will never turn 31's no matter what you do to it.

I would DEF say Grizz over the Honda just because I have heard the Rincon is lacking tremendously in power.......Or you could go with something even bigger such as a POPO 800 or 850

I owned a rincon for about 6 months, all i done was trail ride until winter, put some 26" 589 on it. It was OK in the mud i thought until i went riding with a couple of buddies, two grizzlies and a popo they could spin out the thick mud and roll right on through it seemed like i was in slow motion in the bad mud. As far as deep water i loved it. But the honda does lack the power, needs a low selection in tranny  i now own 08 grizz. I went to a dealership where they sell yamaha, honda and polaris. I was basically told if i was considering the grizzly or popo not to even put the honda in that class because there was no comparison.

I ride with two buddies, one has a Grizz 700 and the other a Rincon 680.  In my opinion, As far as refinement of the suspension, the rincon has the grizz beat.  Accerleration (With tires) is much better on the Grizz.  Also, there is not way you will run 31" on the Rincon without a gear reduction, On the Rincon forums, they say 27" should be the biggest you run.  I would go with the Grizzly, Its more setup for what you want to do.

    grizz31 You shouldn't even say Rincon &
31" Laws on the same line!! LOL! I don't htink it would turn them at all, in the mud. I don't/nor have I owned a Rincon, but was talked out of getting 1 by some great friends & still thank them for it!  IMO It's a great trail rig as stated, but I've only seen like 3-4 that were set up for mudding & the money they had tied up, they could have kept the Rincon(stock) & nearly paid for the mudding bike!! Tell him he's gonna need more than GOOD LUCK if he gets the Rincon intending what you mentioned! Later & hope this helps your bud out             Brandon
