I've been thinking about getting into a SxS but I can't decide which one would suit my needs so I'm looking for advice from people that own or have owned one.  My main use would be slower trail riding with some mud when it's in my way on the trail.  Sometimes they're fairly deep holes but not too bad.  My main concern is that I want a bike that I' don't have to pour money into to go through these mud holes.  I want to spend my money on tires and wheels and a stereo, a roof and things like that.  With that being said my first choice has always been the rzr since it should be good on the trails and in the light mud and can go where my buddies atv's go.  My concern with it is the seat height. Is this a problem ir are there some doors or something that can help keep mud and water out when I get in some deeper stuff?  My other two choices are the rhino and teryx.  I know the rhino is proven and is capable of doing everything pretty well but I keep hearing that it's underpowered compared to the rzr and the teryx.  Is this true or just bull**** from the polaris and kawi guys?  The teryx is just one that I don't know a lot about.  I hear it has really good power but I also hear a lot of bad things about the belt and clutch setup.   I've also read that the belt drive needs to be snorkeled to go through any type of mud.  Is this true or is that just if your gonna be in the mud all the time?  Although I really like the teryx le camo and I can get one for a sweet price I feel like I'm taking a chance if I get one because it has some problems with water and mud if not snorkeled from the get go.  What do you Kawi guys think about it?  One more thing, I went to bass pro and they were selling a brand new 08 prowler 700 xtx for 9600.  Any pros and cons for this one?  Will it handle the trails as well as a rhino or teryx or is it more of a mudbike?  Reliability?  Thanks for any help guys, I just want to make the right decision the first time and you fellas seem knowledgeable about these bikes.  Oh yea, it won't be used for any type of work. Just carry me and the wife or a friend and a cooler of beer and some tunes.

i have both the rzr and the rhino. i like them both. the rzr is fast and can take good tire and sling the crap out of it. the seat height is an issue but not that bad. the rhino is a great bike also but lacks in the power range if you throw some bigger tires at it. but a simple clutch kit will take care of most of those issues and the rhino has more ground clearance with a 2" lift than the razor does with a 2" lift. since you are not wanting it for work i would suggest the razor. dont know anything bout the teryx but heard it has good power. i mean it does have the brute motor on it and we all know the brutes are no slouch. these are just things that i have encountered. someone else may have different things to say. hope this helps

if your just crusing trails and going through some mud, then any of them will work

if you want really long rides, the teryx is probably the worst in fuel mileage

if you want to use it for utility, there is only one choice, the 09 Ranger, with twice the bed capacity and almost twice the towing capacity of any others

alot of choices, for what you need it, could go with any

They are all good machines. Which dealer do you like the best? Buy whatever machine you can get the best service on. Sounds like any of them would meet your basic requirements.

thanks guys, this is the way it usually happens. People recommend the rzr and then somebody tells me they break down a lot. I don't really know what to believe about em. I use to not like Polaris but they seem to make good machines now days. As far as dealers go, the yamaha dealer is the only one I've ever dealt with and they are good but the others seem to be fine. Any more opinions on the teryx or prowler?

Unless I am mistaken, when I was looking for a sxs, one major consideration was that the Rhino has 12.1 inches of ground clearance stock where as the RZR has 7. Just a thought.

My friend has a Teryx and it was a chore to snorkle. Powerful and pretty quick but minor belt issues.

Another friend that went from a Rhino to a RZR and is now going back to the Rhino b/c he pretty much broke every time he took the RZR out.

I went for the Rhino b/c of the bulletproof belt system, ground clearance, not too wide to go down tight trails that any full sized atv can go down, and if I hit 20 mph I am screamin down the trail.

Any of them can be modded to do exactly what you want them to do, The Rhino is the best platform to start at for me.

I had a Rhino and absolutely loved everything about it except the lack of power to turn larger tires. I recently bought a Prowler and could not have been happier with my purchase. It has fit down all the trails that my Rhino fit down so far and it will turn the snot out of some 32's. Also they are very easy to snorkel.

My friends RZR has 400 miles in it. He has broken a front cv, front hub, front spindle,4 shocks, rear swaybar, wires fell off gauges, front a arm mounts are worn oversize from being loose, front axle bearings are loose in meatball
That's it for now he hasn't taken it out since it was fixed. OH and he flopped it on it's side going real SLOW and the rollcage is all bent. So if you want one get the exteeeeeended warrenty.
I was going to get a RZR but after all the problems my friend has no thanks. I had a Rhino 450 and it was bullet proof , but I wanted something with more power. I tried the Rhino 700 and Teryx and ended up getting the Teryx. It now has 400 miles on it and no problems.I would say your safe with a Rhino or Teryx , I have no idea about the Prowler.

Roadiesat, what would I need to snorkel on the teryx to do the kind of riding I'm gonna do? Have you snorkeled the belt or is it doing ok? What about this squealing problem I keep hearing about, any of that? thanks BTW I would go ahead and get the prowler but that thing looks huge and I'm afraid I would get left behind on some of the tighter trails. It is mean looking though and 9600 sounds like a great deal for a fuel injected version. What kind of record does arctic cat have as far as reliability goes? Anywhere close to the japanese bikes?

I am the one Ball was talking about on the RZR. I could never get used to the machine. I don't know if it was because I started on a Rhino and liked the seat height etc... Or I don't know. I do know I sold the RZR and am now looking for a Rhino again. I will say my little 450 was as bullet proof as the come. We ran the poop out of it and it just kept on going like the energizer bunny. The Rzr on the other hand had to have lots of small issues worked out on it. When I sold it I probably had all the bugs worked out and is a good machine. Those bugs included new axles, lift springs, lift etc....

I don't go in deep water so I so I have no need to snorkel mine. The deepest ive been is about 2 or 3 in above the floor.I have no belt problems. The only problem I have is the plastic on the sides. It gets torn off easy, real sheet design. The Prowler I don't know anything about so I can't say good or bad.
