i am thinking about replaciny my bulbs with H4's, is there any need to silicone around the rubber housing or will everything stay watertight?  don't want water/mud in my lenses.

I may be the only one who's mind stays in the gutter....but that's funny

I have never had problems with water in my headlights in the past ....silicon would make it hard to replace wouldn't it?

After a good washing (I took them out)  I used  some of the dielectric grease I had left to cover the rubber boot area. I didn't get all the water out of the housing after I washed it so when it all went back together there was moisture in the housing so I put a shop light close to the lens and the heat dried them up.

Jeremy you must have a water hating King Quad for sure. My King never has had a problem with water or moisture in the headlights and no silicone.
