Has anyone paint their rim or wheel? I was thinking of painting My SS106 rim black to match the rest of the atv... I dont want to buy a new black rim... too $$$ and I love the way how the SS106 look....

never tried aftermarket ones but i have painted my stk ones a couple of times
im going to try to use a truck bed coating on mine

i think if you want it to last your going to have to sand your rims
i find that i have to keep reaplying spray paint in order to keep them looking good (im a little hard on my rims)

Mine are spray painted... old Polaris aluminum rims.

Holds up very well actually.

J_Fred, How long have you had them painted? Alot of mud time? What was the rim prep prior to paint. What type of spray paint did you use?

i just got thru painted a set of itps on my cat. i will get some pics of this weekend after i get it back together. use dupli color's self etching primer. it work on metal and aluminum. then use their high gloss laquer paint and their laquer clear and they will look like a new set. i put a 3 coats of color and 2 coats of clear.

i got a set of painted grizzly wheels on my 300.....lol i didnt even sand them......whiped them down with thinner, then painted them with plasticote chrome paint.....its been about 400 miles...so far so good....

Hmm... I didnt even know aluminum will allow paint to adhease well... I dont wanna mess mine up though because they are pretty much one of a kind, hard to find.

I want something black though. if the tires will fit on these rims with proper clearance Ill paint these black.

The problem with truck bed lining or undercarrige coating is that mud sticks to it like glue, you will never be able to rinse it off, high pressure washer any time you want them clean. All the texture in these products act like velcro for the mud......

I bought them from a guy on here, he didn't even know they had been painted until he removed the tires and saw some grey/silver coloring.

I ride mud about 40% of the time really, sometimes a bit less, and haven't had to even touch them up with my extra paint. Only problem is the lugnuts scratch the paint off just a bit. But as I said, I have not had to re-paint them since I got them. It also looks to me that no prep was done to them, just some black spray paint...

gmc71, you can paint aluminum with success if you use aluminum primer. I think it is an etching primer. You should be able to ask someone at the paint store and I'm not talking about home depot.
