I've seen a couple posts about repacking with steel wool from Home Depot. Do you use any fiberglass packing (100% wool)? Anybody done it? How'd it turn out? Any pics? Thanks.

Have you ever seen what happens to finly shredded pieces of steel when it gets wet? I picked a piece up off the shop floor last week and it crumbled in my fingers.

Wool is sheep hair.  Steel is made when iron and carbon are mixed.  Glass is made when we finally nuke a couple of key desert targets.

Don't put wool in your pipe.  Steel wool rusts to nothing pretty quick.  Fiberglass is kind of OK but it's hard to find the right stuff, it packs up too tight and doesn't breath good.  Generic steel wool or fiberglass "can" be used, but with mixed and mediocre results.  Proper packing material is not 'that' different, but it works better.

We used some stainless steel "steel wool" from a local hardware store to quiet down a Megaphone exhaust and it worked great, never burnt up or rusted out. Quieted it down to a level suitable for riding around here for only a few bucks.

I used some of the steel scrubby pads for my Big Gun. Working great so far…

you can send it back to HMF for a repack, it was posted up here a while ago, took about 3-4 weeks and $50-70ish bux i think.  not to bad for a new-ish HMF.  the repack, resurface, redecal, ect..  i'll probably send mine in when it get worse than it is now, lol!
