I have an HMF on a 650 H1. I was thinking about buying a Quiet Core for my HMF. How quiet does the quiet core make the bike? I don't want it to lose the rumble but no be as loud as the HMF with no packing. Anybody ever used this or have a buddy who has? Just looking for some feedback before I purchase it.

Alright but what did you think of the sound b/c I also use my ATV to move stuff around the house and with the HMF it is impossible to at night.

it does help and so long the packing in the muffler is in good shape it will sound fine, but when the packing in the muffler is bad it seems to not sound as nice.

i can' stand how obnoxious those hmf's are. my friend has to take out his quiet core just so he can get the power to go thru the mud but it is deafening. a lot of us have modded our stock pipes. mine has a great tone w/a low rumble. very nice. plus it look likes duals.

Same.

It will quiet it down a few DBs though but still really not enough to do something at night on the bike w/o disturbing neighbors

I agree, Hmf utility is plain loud-I have the Quiet core, all it did was restrict air flow and very loud still..

I made what I call a sound diverter for mine and it doesn't restrict air flow.
Enourmas difference in sound, much quietier and deep tone. Guess im gonna end up posting a pic of it soon because everyone I ride with likes it.

At first I moded thestock pipe and that worked ok but get much better air flow now..

Dreggasta- made it out of flat diamond plate.  about 12 in. long. it bends around 1 1/4 pipe real easy, I cut it then hose clamped it to hold it around the pipe then tac welded it. take the clamps off and slide it off the pipe. the end that goes in the muffler first I bent till it touched (like the end of a bullet} and welded that. Last I wrapped it with thin stainless steel strap(very porus so air moves thru easy). thats it...

I have also read about people using the FMF 4-stroke packing on the HMF Utility. I heard that it last alot longer and gives it a better sound.

My old Supertrapp IDS2.... defenatley adds some runble and tone, as well as power, and it is MUCH more quite than the HMF's. Easy to tune for increased sound and performance. Wouldnt trade it for anything...

The disc on mine are inside. I've never clogged the disc at all. Thats where the air flows through, and thats a lot of pressure flowing through there. i couldnt see them getting clogged?

the one I had I was constantly having to stop and clean the discs on it. I ride in alot of deep mud it did add power but only when its not clogged with mud.

Depends on how much water riding you do, the more the muffler goes under water the sooner it will go bad.

weird.... I bought mine in 03...Still use it to this day. Same packing too! LOL
I just dont see how they can get clogged when thats where the air flow comes out of. I ride is some pretty deep mud too, but never had to clean anything out...

Hot pipe the mud dries to the disc builds up a little ever hole you go through restricting exhaust flow robbing power. I was told the same thing before i bought the pipe didnt believe it till it happened to me. but i never had to change packing. I even bought a spare set of discs where all i had to do when it started clogging up was pull the end cap and swap discs. clean the dirty ones with the wire brush later

catkrazy,  You heard my 650 with my "noise diverter" that I made, If you don't mind tell these folks what you think about the way it sounds now.

I do know the quiet core didn't help very much. it was still too loud.

thanks.

Its sounds a WHOLE lot better than it did. A nice rich tone, but not ear ringing loud. There is no high pitched poping,or glassy sound. Almost sounds like a flow master. Sounds good! Makes me want a HMF LOL
