The lights on my 99 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 surge alot (bright to dim, bright to dim). I was wondering if anybody here had this problem with their bike or knew how to fix this?

Its the surge from your cooling fan coming on.

you may want to check your circut breaker in the front of the wheeler under the plastic by the radiator
I just changed mine on my 2002 it was rusted out . My lights were blinking.

The lights surge whether the bike is cold or warm. Will the circuit breaker on my 99 Sportsman be in the front by the radiator like the 02?

I found the circuit breaker for the lights on the 99 Sportsman next to the battery and the connections were clean. The surging light problem was a busted ground wire inside the head light pod making a enough contact to keep the lights still working (barely).

I rode to my deer blind last night and the head lights still surge from time to time. Anybody have any other ideas?

Check all your grounds, battery connections and your stator. Make sure all connections are clean. Bad connections can cause real problems. I would look real hard at the fan. Even when everything else is in good working order the fan can cause enough drain on the system to make your headlight surge.

I know mine were doing it right before i replaced them with the hids. I just bought a brand new 08 800 stealth and it was doing it the first time i took it out up until the hids. I just thought it was normal. Not sure if the fan was kicking on or not but i do know that the h.i.d.s do not do it.

Why won't the HID lights surge like the stock lights, don't the HID's require a steady 12volts?
