Anyone else pick up this album today?  After listening to it twice, I can honestly say that it exceeded all my expectations.  I thought Chinese Democracy was going to be embarrasingly bad, but Axl's pipes are still functional in his old age and the album is pretty good.

A word of warning to old school GN'R fans.  Don't go into this album with thoughts of Appetite for Destruction or Use your Illusions I & II.  This sounds nothing like those albums and you're setting yourself up for a huge disappointment if you're looking to rediscover the GN'R of old.  That GN'R is dead and this new GN'R is nothing like it.  While Axl is still a gifted performer, this isn't the same Axl we all knew back in the late 80's and early 90's.

Still, Chinese Democracy is a good album.

its allright...

my favorite song on that CD is Chinese Democracy though.
I guess it is good compared to where the bar was set for Appetite for Destruction

i previewed it on ITUNES and I dont exactly like it, but that could change it if I am driving with the tunes on- we will have to see

also, is it only sold at BestBuy?  my buddy told me that thats the ONE AND ONLY place that is able to sell it and the nearest BB to me is about 40 miles so I didnt make a special trip.

Wow. Not what I was expecting. I was expecting something not very good, and them trying to reach back to the days of old. As someone that really likes the old GNR, I like thier new sound as well. They have got a really good up to date sound to them, which I wasn't expecting. Deffinetly not the same GNR, but I like it. There was some Use Your Illusion influence in there but not much.

You can also purchase Chinese Democracy from the iTunes store.

The problem with Chinese Democracy is that it is the most eagerly anticipated album in music history, as well as being the most expensive, or close to it.  It is basically impossible to live up to the expectations people had for it and many people will give it negative reviews as a result.  But if you forget about  '87-'93 GN'R for a moment and just listen to the album, I think most people will like it.  "Better" is easily the best track.

They streamed it on myspace and I listened to all the songs.  I wasn't too impressed myself.  The only song that I actually care for is Chinese Democracy itself.  I also find it hard to call them GNR when it's only Axle in the band.  I wonder what they are going to be like live.  If Axle can pipe out his voice without the help of engineering.
