I have 800 miles on my 08. It's been to the dealer 5 times. It stalls an average of 2-3 times on a 30 mile day. It stalled 8 times on a hot day when it was new. It seems to stall less as the temperature gets cooler. Last weekend was the first time it did not stall at all. I wonder if the 09/ 550 and 700 will have the stalling problem. I bet Yamaha knows what the problem is but it would be an expensive recall.

The griz is supposed to idle at a certain RPM. You can adjust this with the screw sitting just on the right side if fuel tank. You need to take off the cover to the air filter and you will see it. RPM's should be around 1400 or 1450 when idling.

My 09 grizz 700 has 540km and 40.6 hrs and has not stalled even once. Well except when it is real cold, the odd time it stalls 1 or 2 second after starting it.
I read somewhere that the 09's have a different spark plug to help the stalling problem.

One of my buds has a 07 700 Grizzly and he had to relocate his gas tank vent because it was too close to the pipe and getting the gas hot. Between doing this and putting on the outerwears air box lid it stopped his from stalling.

Try puting the 660 gas cap on it. Also when is it doing it? On a hot day? Riding slow when trail riding with a group? The grizzlys don't like this much on hot days. Causes almost like a vaopr lock, but its not a v/l or gas boil. And then after take off after a few feet it gets cool ail back in & runs fine. Mine done this on my 660. I have made several cooling mods to help prevent it.

Grizzly 700 - Adjust Fuel Map - pod mod - stalling fix

When I got my Grizz 700, it stalled a few times on the first ride when it was hot and I was pressing the throttle. Forum users have determined that the fuel map may need to be adjusted. Some have said set it to 50, but results vary. Try it until you find the number that works best for you.

-------------- Fuel adjustment-------------------------------------------------

1. With the key in the off position, Hold "Select" & "Reset" at the same time. While holding them down turn the key on. The "d IAG" screen will pop up in 5-10 seconds.
2. Press the Select button to get it to the "Co" screen.
3. Hold "Select" & "Reset" again until the "C1" screen pops up. You should see a big "0" in the top of the screen too.
4. Hold "Select" & "Reset" again until the C1 setting pops up at the lower right hand side of the screen.
5. Press "Select" to raise the number and press "Reset" to lower the number.
6. Turn the key off to reset to the new settings.
7. Restart Quad

The number you find works best may be different from the number that works best for someone else.

Warning you can accidentally go into the diagnostic area of the pod. If you see a "d" I suggest turn the key off before you change something that you don't know how to get back. Let me know if you find more settings that we can use.

The diagram below is from a motorcycle. We still don't know if the grizz C1 setting is like this or if we are adjusting a wider band.

You can get the pod to read engine RPM's by going through the same steps as if you are doing the pod mod but instead of turning the key off to save settings, start the engine. The Speedometer will read three large digits. Add a 0 to the end of number shown to get your RPM (160+0 is 1600rpm) It will only read up to 199 or 1990rpm, as this is just for showing you RPM while you set your idle.

The silver knob on the end of the flex hose mounted to the CVT exhaust tube adjusts idle. Mine was turned up all the way, and my engine still stalled once in a while. I actually adjusted the throttle (set screw on cable wheel, left side of throttle body) a bit faster. Don't turn your idle up too high, or your clutch will begin to engage.

I do believe the "Pod Mod" adds power through the WHOLE fuel range not just the 1st 25%. The reason you only have access to the C1 Menu on the Grizzly is because that is all there is. The "C" stands for Cylinder which the grizzly only has 1 opposed to your diagram with shows a 4 cylinder motorcycle like the R6 or R1 which has 4 cylinders and has different load applied to each cylinder threw out the power band. FYI On the R6 and R1 you can adjust ALL the CO options....

my 660 used to vapor lock all the time really sucked. My 08 700 Grizz started stalling right off the bat and I removed that piece is on the vent line to the fuel tank and it has never happened again. Its some kind of checkball or something like that.

Stalling update!!

Yesterday was the first chance I have had to ride very much since the first of October. I was told that the stalling was caused by the shift linkage needing adjusted.

I adjusted the shift linkage by tightening the rod by 1/2 turn. I rode for 9 hours yesterday and it only stalled 2 times. The last time it was ridden (before adjustment) it would stall EVERY time that you stopped. As I stated in the Oct. post, it would stall no matter what the condition, Hot, Cold, idle, hill, mud, You name it and it would stall if you let off the throttle. I have had the fuel check valve changed by the dealer. That was supposed to help but it didn't.

I am going to adjust the linkage rod about 1/2 more turn and see if that corrects it completely. I will keep you posted.

I have read on other sites that the linkage correction is the "fix" so far I am a believer.

Some people have questioned "WHY" would that help???
DON"T KNOW    DON"T CARE..........It just worked on mine and was free!

Ive only got 12 hrs on mine but it has only stalled 2 times but it fires right back up with no issues, I just did the "Pod Mod" on mine and added to 2R Tip but have not had a chance to mess with it yet. But good luck to you and keep us posted.

If you are standing on the left side of the bike facing the seat you would turn the rod up or clockwise I guess.

I'll post a pic. tomorrow.

I've never even looked at mine.  Can you turn it on each end or just one end?

With your mods, you need the dynatek.  This will cure it all.

You can see one just under the shifter nob, that is the front linkage(you have to take the left panel off)  You have to loosen the set nut on the other end too. Super easy to adjust. Just loosen the set nuts on each end (12mm). Turn the rod up or clock wise 1 to 2 rotations. Before you tighten set nuts turn the key on and make sure your pod lights up with the postions of the shifter. I tightened a little too much the first time and P (park) would not light up.
Before you loosen anything, make a mental note of how loose the linkage is. Mine had a LOT of play in it. Now there is very little.

Any way, this has fixed my stalling issue. I will keep my fingers crossed. It is like having a whole new atv!!
