I am going to be installing  a radio on my golf cart and I was wondering just exactly how to hook it up to 36 volts.

You cant hook it up to 36 volts. You will need a dedicated 12v battery for the radio, or find some type of power supply that will step down your 36v into 12v at the radio. If you hook 36v to the radio, you will let all the smoke out and then it won't work...

I found what I need to do the job.  It is a 36 to 12 volt reducer and they sell for like $60 so that will do what I need it to do.  Thanks!

Don't waste your money!  All you need to do is come off of two of your 6 volt batteries, that's 12 volts.

Indeed it is twelve volts, and it'll work fine at first.  But you'll cook the rest of the batteries by overcharging in very short order.  And the two you pull the twelve volts out of will be soon behind, not "cooked" but ruined by being in a constantly undercharged state.  It's far cheaper to use the converter.
