Okay I need some computer guru help I'll try and keep this short and to the point:
I have some kinda virus on my puter that is killing my internet and making the whole puter run really screwy.I have it in safe mode now and thats how I'm using internet. So after I got back online my freind told me to go to download.com and download Ad-Ware.So I tryed that and when it was done, I clicked RUN.A pop up came on that said there's policies blocking software downloading(or somthing like that)
So the software won't download, now I'm totally lost and running out of patience!
Can somone help me??!!Please!!!lol

FYI.........Ad-Aware just checks for adware/malware, not viruses.

I'm not knocking your computer knowledge or ability, but you're probably going to be best off just reloading Windows XP.  If 'something' got on your machine that's creating all of these issues, then your machine is probably not set up to properly handle them (ie: firewalls, anti-virus, adware programs, pop-up blockers, etc.)  Someone with experience and resources could sit down with your machine and clean up what you've got, but reformatting and reinstalling will get you going faster.  Fixing problems like this are not real easy over an internet forum! LOL!

Check if you can download Avira off of download.com

If not take your PC to a local store and they will search threw your C: Drive and find it.

Best bet is to download the windows malicious software removal tool from microsoft.com  http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
Then run pc-cillin's free online scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Then run spybot search and destroy. http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?cdlPid=10861988
Then finally Ad-aware 2008 from lavasoft. http://www.lavasoft.com/single/trialpay.php

After everything is good and clean, D/L the Wise Registry Cleaner and run that.  http://www.wisecleaner.com/

 I agree with Jcbones.

I have Pc-Cillin and I never have any issues with viruses and it will find them better than most ( if not all ) other programs.

You might want to roll back your configurations using the system restore in the control panel. Some programs be it virus or spyware and such and some regular "normal" programs have a nasty habit of changing things like your internet properties and startup programs.

If you do the scans and the roll back and it doesn't help then as Swamp-Monster said a format and reload will be the fastest and cheapest way. If you have your HD partitioned or a seperate drive you can back up your files to either of them and only format the OS side then reinstall XP and update. Buy Trend Micro PC-cillin then restore your backed up files. That way you can filter out any virus or adware, etc.
