Ok guys, i thought this would be a good thread to do on the King so everyone will know how to retreive trouble codes from the ECU.

To begin with, the service manual tells says that you need a $15.00 "mode select switch" (P/N 09930-82720) to go into dealer mode (allows you to get the codes).

This is nothing more than a factory connector that jumps two of the factory terminals to each other, you can do away with having the switch by using a peice of wire, paper clip, bread tie or anything that will fit in the dianostic port on your King.

The mode select connector is located under the seat just behind the battery and it will have a black rubber cap on it.

With the locking clip on the connector on the top, you'll need to jump both of the terminals on the right side of the connector, one is on top of the other.

Ok, so you get the idea on the jumper wire, so now you need to look at your pod (with the key in the on position) and look at the bottom of the screen where your hours are normally displayed. You should see this if there are no codes stored on the ECU.

-C 00 is a default code, or all clear code.

If the "00" is replaced with a number then you may have a malfunction in that particular part.

C 12  Crankshaft position sensor
C 13  Intake air pressure sensor
C 14  Throttle postion sensor
C 15  Engine coolant temperature sensor
C 20  Differential lock relay
C 21  Intake air temperature sensor
C 23  Tip over sensor
C 24  Ignition signal (ignition coil)
C 32  Injector signal
C 40  Idle speed control valve
C 41  Fuel pump control system

Throttle position sensor: (crank the engine to run this test) The line before the "C 00" is telling you if the TPS is centered or not, for example, if it says this, _C 00, then you need to loosen the screws on the TPS and slightly turn it counter clockwise until the line centers up, it needs t look like this, -C 00.

I have the VDI Copperhead on my KQ 700 07 and if I want to chek for some codes I have to install the original ecu of my KQ in order to have a reading and I can do it without starting the engine.

Thats a good question Dugs, i dont have the VDI so i dont know if it has diagnostic capabilities, but i do know that if you unplug the ECU before you retreive the codes it will erase them until they come back again.

yeah, you have to put in the stock ECU to run diagnostics...

You have to turn it slowly, don't loosen the screws all the way, leave them snug then make your adjustment, you don't have to turn it much at all.

I did the bread tie thing and get the  -00 code, but where my odometer reading is, it still says Err.  I had the battery disconnected for a while, since it was dead, and it has been there ever since.  Any suggestions?

It says "check" when the kill switch is on. Turn the key off and just disconnect the ecm then plug it back in, mine did the same thing!

Should I pull that big plug off the ECM?  I always turn the machine off/on with the key, so I assume I'm in the on position.

I am having the problem of my 08 750 not running right. I changed out my exhaust but put my stockpipe back on and the bike still doesn't run good. The bike wont idle right , hard time starting , and seems to back fire at times.  I dont want to by a programmer if not needed. Any help I would greatly appreciate . Do you know any suzuki tech in the Houston area?

U dont have a choice.   If your going to run a aftermarket pipe, you have to buy one of the programmers out there. As far as your other post, you can not reflash the ecm like your wanting.
