i have my carb jetted with the dj144 main jet and stock idle jet i turned out the mixture screw 3 turns and the needle is set on the 3rd notch with the two spacers on it. i ran it and it seems to be a little slugish and it pops when i let off the gas. the plug was carbed over when i pulled it. any recomendations on the settings i should try next? i live in beaumont texas, so im almost at sea level.

I'm not GWC but he did help me with mine.  Air/Fuel Mix screw should only be out out 2 turns.  Try that .  Mine was back firing and poppin like crazy and i set my mix screw to that setting and now it's good.

Yeah what he said. I have mine out 2 turns. I also only have one spacer on needle. Do you have 2" snorkles? Make sure you are getting a good connection on your plug also. I am just up the hill from you in central La. So not much elavation diff.

on my 500 i had to go up to a 42 pilot jet the needle was on the 4th knotch and i had a 150dj main in it.

But once you get out past two turns on your pilot jet you should go up to the next size pilot jet.

with the screw turned out that fr it wil get lazy to rev off the line and if its not out that far i bet its back fireing some..?
once you get your pilot jet dialed in you might mess with your needle and main to see if your big enough on them as well ..
