I have the 60csx on a RAM mount. Waterproof, rugged, and with a good screen.

So does that show where and what trails that you have travelled?  Where did you get your RAM holder?

I got the holder from cyclegadgets dot com.

The cheapest Garmin you can buy (eTrex) will show you where you have traveled, etc....but it doesn't have any roads, streams, mountains programmed into to.  If those things are important to you, than upgrade the the eTrex Legend.  The eTrex series is smaller than the 60 or 70 series.

I've got the cheapest eTrex that I bought about 8 years ago and it works fine for me.  I carry a map as well as my GPS while riding or hunting.

I have a Rino® 530HCx  from Garmin. They are kind of expensive but, it gives you all of the GPS functionality you'lle ver need plus 2-way radio and NOAA weather alerts. It's water proof, have had it muddy a bunch of times and wash it off without an issue. I got mine for about $350. Then I bought a hadle bar mount for it. Something real cool, if other people you ride with have one... and you split up.. not only can you use the two way radio to find each other.. you can "beam" your location to them and it will show them on thier GPS where you are at. Well worth the money IMO.

I have a Lowrance Ifinder hunt GPS unit and I've been very pleased with it. I can use it for ATVing, hunting, boating, and when we travel in the car. The unit is water proof and fully packed with features and it will even tell if there is a posted storm warning in the area we are in which was saved us from being in a few nasty thunder storms while riding in the Adironadacks Mnts. I have the ram mounts which holds the unit steady on even the roughest terrain. Here some pics of it.

How good is the 60csx under heavy foliage? I've been looking into getting a gps forever but never could decide what I wanted. Is the colorado series the only one that shows topo maps?

I looked at that one but it looks to big for what I need. I'm sure it's an awesome unit though.

Magellan Explorist 400 is what I have. The Garmin 60csx is a nice unit and works well but mine does good enough for me . I leave mine in my bag and really don't use it all that much but a do make tracks with it and mark a few spots that I might need later. I had a mount but I got too much on my handlebars as it is. I may mount mine to the front rack though.

I like the Garmin 76CSX. It is waterproof and floats...only uses 2 AA batteries. You can purchase a 12V power supply for it, but I prefer the batteries - no wires that way. I use it for navigating on my motorcycle, in my truck, and have used it once on my ATV. I bought the RAM mounts for all through, but ended up leaving it in the dry box with my camera while four wheeling...just found I didn't need it that much.

To use it on the road, you must purchase additional software for around $100. I also bought a couple 2GB micro SD's for loading maps, that way I can easily load'em up and swap'em out. I absolutely love using it on my bike and in my truck. A cool thing about it is when you are traveling, you can just hit the find key and select food/gas/whatever and it will pull up the closest place...with address and phone number - I recently found that to be very handy when I was in Tennessee.

DEFINATELY go with the RAM mount for any application.

Myself and 3 of my riding buddies have the Garmin 276C above.  It is Marine rated..so 100% waterproof and works absolutely great...it plots where you have been with a cookie trail feature... I have tried a few of them , but this one is the best IMO....  U can get the best price on www.pricegrabber.com   I got mine for about $360

plus, the lowrance is only $269, or $249 if you find it on sale. they make a handlebar mount and everything. turn by turn street nav, aerial imagry, marks trails, mp3 player, pre programmed with tons of POIs, (points of interest), search function, waypoints, basically everything you would need and then some for a better price than most

I think I am leaning towards the Garmin 60CSx or the Garmin  76CSx is this a good choice?  Which one is the better model or is there a different model I should get?     Thanks again for any input

I have the Garmin Etrex Vista HCX Handheld, and it does very good for riding trails. Check out the web site and read all of the features that it has, plus I only paid $219.00 on Wal-mart.com. I looked into alot of GPS units efore I bought this one and decided to go with this one. Just my 2 cents.

I love my 76CSX. I have even used it as a phone book while travelling...I needed to know what gas stations ahead of me accepted fuelman credit cards, so I just pulled them up and dialed...sure was handy!

I hear and have read that you can't beat the colorado for reception and hiking use.
