Hello, My name is Doug, I'am new here and was wondering if anyone can help me out. I just pick up a 2000 foreman 400 with a blown engine. I have a drive train out of a 2001 foreman 450 and trying to swap it to the 400. The 400 sits alot lower then the 450, so I got the upper and lower arims, tie rods , shocks and stuff to make it sit a little higher, but when I put everything on the axles are on to much of a angle and are binding up on me, any help would be great,I can post some pics if anyone would like, Thanks

Did you get the 450 axles as well?

I'm running 450 supension on my old 400 frame with no problems.  With the bike up on a jack or stands the shocks are going to fully extend the a-arms out all the way making it stiff. Put the tires on it and see if the weight of the bike settles it down. It clears 28" tires with no lift and the rear floorboards have been trimmed alittle to help with clearance.

Nice, did you reuse any of your 400 front end? Here is a pic with the 450 upper and lower armes and the other is with the 450 shocks, when you try to move it you can here the cv bind up.

The only thing that was reused on the frontend of the 400 was the front diff and tie rod ends. Everything else was switched over to 450 parts. This included axles, knuckles, a-arms, shocks front and rear.

So any idea why Iam having problems? When I put the a-arms on they where longer then the 400 ones, my tie rods would not reach. I need to come down about 2 inches so I dont bind up.

I bought 450 tie rods but have never put them on, I am still using the 400 tie rods and just adjusted them out.

How sure are you about the condition of the used axles that you bought?

From the looks of those two pics, I think stockers should work fine without binding up.  If they're in question, take them out and work the joints really good and see if you have any resistance.

I have questions to a similar issue. I recently purchased a '95 400FW and think that a previous owner put 450 suspension on it because some All Balls ball joints I bought for it are way too small for the A-arm/Knuckle. How the heck can I tell if it's been converted over to 450 parts??? Can I measure the inboard CV joint, axles, A-arms, or something?? Anything?? If so, would anyone mind getting me the measurements of their 450 parts so I can compare them with the parts that are in mine? I would really appreciate it if someone could.

The one I've purchased has got 27" tires, on ITP wheels, and Progressive Suspension shocks on it that would lead me to think it would make sense to do the 450 parts to get a little extra lift on it... The Progressive shocks are stamped "Progressive Suspension P01347 B120 05". I've emailed Progressive to see what the applications are for these shocks to see if that will help me answer my questions as to whether is 400 or 450 suspension parts...

If anyone wouldn't mind sending me some measurements on their 400 of 450 parts to assist in my figuring out of my problem, I would really appreciate it. And good luck with your binding issue as well! Thanks in advance...

Ric J.

The guy on here that said he switched everything includidng axles except for the diff. They could be the same but you might want to check the length of the actual axle from the 400 to the 450. Many times when you can switch axles from one figg to the other means they are the same but doesn't have to be, the 450's could be a little longer and get you out of the bind. And you could possibly sell yours and buy more on ebay without taking much loss if that was the case.

as far as the drivetrain it should work fine I just had the gears from a 999 foreman 400 put in a 02 450 and they were the same thing.
