Finally fixin to get a muffler for my Z71. I really like both of them-
Flowmaster Super 44
DynoMax Bullet

The DynoMax is cheaper, and both have a good tone to it.

I will be gettin one muffler, then 2 tail pipes coming straight out the back.

What do yall recomend??

I've always had better performance gains with Dynomax than with Flowmaster in the past.  Just my $.02

Go with the Dynomax Bullit. It's cheaper, louder, and more aggressive than the Flowmaster. I also recommend the IMCO Extreme over the Flowmaster for the same reasons.

If your going for a real nice sounding exhaust think bout the MagnaFlow, ran one on my 00 2500hd and loved the sound and power gains.

yep I run a Magnaflow, I cant remember if there was a power gain, but its well worth the sound.

I hear a straight-thru design muffler such as Magnaflow will be more likely to provide a MPG/power gain than a chambered or glasspack muffler.

just something to think about.

the flowmaster super 44 is louder than the other flowmasters... i had one on my 98 z71 and it sounded awesome.. it was a single inlet, dual outlet muffler with pipe ran out the back and man it sounded sweet. im not a fan of any IMCO junk, magnaflow sounds pretty good and dynomax bullets sound ok but not the right tone for me, they have a little ricey sound to them up in RPM's. if i had a choice it would be the super 44.

See this is the thing. I'm real confident that the Flowmaster will have the sound I'm looking for, But if the Bullet sound just as good and just as loud, then I might as well go with it, since it's cheaper.
On the Dynomax website, it claims the bullet is just a few decibles below a straight pipe. Some straight pipes sound alright, but to me do not have a good tone to them. And some I've heard sound terrilbe.
I've got a week to decide, so keep the suggestions coming!!

Flowmasters sound great, Magnaflows are overpriced glasspacks. The IMCO, or Cherry Bomb now, Extreme is what I got on my 318 Dakota and it sounds great and is LOUD. The Bullet mufflers are fairly loud but they have kind of a raspy sound to them like an old school glasspack. The flowmaster and Cherry Bomb Extreme both have a smoother tone, the Extreme is just a little louder and slightly more aggressive sounding. The Super 44 is the loudest "street" muffler Flowmaster makes but they have a selection of 40 Series Race mufflers that are a little bit louder then that, they have the single chamber mufflers too. The Extreme is the same as a single chamber, thats why its a little more aggressive then the 44, and its relatively cheap and is available in the single in dual out setup.

Why is the IMCO junk?  Ive had the IMCO Extreme on my 5.4 for nearly 2 years and have no complaints.  I think I paid something like $45 for it brand new.  I really like the tone, loudness, and especially the price.

Dang yall are making my decision harder!!!

Ok, should I get anything done to my catylitic converter? I no getting it worked on, as far as "gutting" it, will result in a better tone, or should I just leave it alone??

On a Z truck, I wouldn't worry about it until you have already done the muffler.  If you want it louder, then gut it or remove it.  If you had a Ford, Id say go ahead and get rid of two of them since they come stock with 4 where all other brands only have 2.

There is nothing junk about the IMCO.  If you want to pay for an overpriced Flowmaster or even a Magnoflow, (way too mellow for me), just because of the name, then by all means, go for it; that's your prerogative.  I don't run a muffler on my truck anymore, (4 cats provide more than enough backpressure), but if I bought another one tomorrow I wouldn't pay twice the price for half the sound or flow.

First off, I didn't mean for that to come across as sarcastic, but I can see how it may have been taken.  Your opinion is your's and you are just as entitled to it as I am to mine.  I made no attempt to invalidate your opinion nor will I ever.  However, referring to a product as junk merely because you do not find it personally appealing is misleading, especially someone who is considering spending their money on such product.  There is nothing inherently wrong with the structural integrity of IMCO mufflers nor are they prone to failure, therefore I do not consider them junk.

If any company makes "junk", it's Flowmaster. Have you ever seen the flow bench numbers? The only one that flows half decent is the single chamber race series. And what about that annoying in-cab drone? I get a headache everytime I ride in a truck with a dumped Flowmaster.

Flowmaster is completely overrated, I've been saying this for years and the majority of people on car/truck performance sites will tell you the same.

As for IMCO, they sound awesome on F-150's! If you're looking for a muffler for a 5.3L, check out the Hooker Aerochamber, it has a straight through design that flows and sounds great!

hate to tell you buddy but ANY muffler that you dump on a truck is gonna be loud in the cab... doesnt take a brain surgeon to understand that. IMCO is a tad over-rated to me... as i stated before, you have your opinion and i have mine... leave it at that and stop tryin to make your remarks towards me because i dont prefer you muffler...

I hate to tell YOU buddy, but "loud in the cab" is one thing, "exhaust drone" is another. Really, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to understand that.

Leave the cats, get a single 3" exhaust after the Ypipe flange with a 3" Dynomax Bullet, the Y into 2.5" duals out the back with some 4X24" tips(or whatever size you prefer)

thats right.  My Magnaflow is somewhat dumped and the drone isnt bad BUT if it were a Flowmaster I probably couldnt stand it.

anyone ever heard of vortex mufflers?  They sell them at midas?  My buddy had the vortex classic muffler on his titan and oh man.. It was awesome at higher rpm it sounded like it was wide open almost like a nascar.  But at low and mid throttle the tone was deep and full!  They also have one called a v-baffle which i heard has an awesome sound but the classic would be the choise for a chevy v8.  I think they are expensive but the classic sounded much deeper than a regular 40 series flowmaster not the quiter super 40 or 44.

you ever had one?  lol  can't be much more garabe than that truck your driving.  Ha ha.  What you got 1.75 in tubing?  2 inch tips.  Get a real truck and put whatever muffler you want on it.  Maybe even step up to a Ram.  But hey don't forget... you better get that transmission built.

My freind had on on his Cherokee when he bought it, and it rusted off completely within a year.

I am willing to race any time, any where with either one of my Dakotas so bring it! On my 318 4x4 I have 3in pipe from the Y to the muffler and dual 2 1/2 the rest of the way. On my 4.7L 2wd I have 2 1/2 from the headers back to the mufflers and both pipes run out the passenger side in front of the rear wheel in 3in.
