I have been chasing down electrical problems all afternoon regarding the on/off switch for my fan.  I finally narowed it down to the switch, I can flick it on and off about 100 times and it comes on maybe 3 times out of the 100 so in my infinite electrical visdom I think that is the problem.  What kind of switches are you guys using and is this a common problem?

Thanks.

I am just using a regular plastic switch from Advance Auto Parts. It has been submerged a few times and it has never failed me.

part of your problem could be the fact that most small switches like that are only rated for low amps. the fan is probably pulling more amps that the switch can handle. you can run your hot wire straight to the fan from the battery and put the switch on your negative wire. this way there is no current flowing through the negative wire but yet it still breaks the circuit to make the fan cut off and on. this is kinda the same thing we have to do with alot of high amperage stuff at work, put the switch on the nuetral. maybe this will help ya out a little.

I have been using switches by GB sold at lows for years now, momentary as well as on/off/on and just on/off switches.....they have a rubber cap that you can screw on it after its mounted, I use some liquid tape in a can to paint around the switch after I have the wires on them, I put 3 coats on them and just a lil bit around the rubber cap before I screw it on to help seal it, not one switch in 7 years has ever failed yet and one of the Honda's I had was submerged past the handle bars a few times.

Put a new switch on this afternoon electrocuted my self in the process.  If this one fails on me I saw a "waterproof" one in a boat store I might try out.

Thanks dudes.
