Never killed one, or been hunting them for that matter, but boy would I love to. Got an uncle thats been trying to get me to go out to Colorado, but never have been in the position to do it. Arkansas has started a elk season, but you probably have to be pretty important to draw a permit, if you know what I mean.

i didn't draw...and neither did my friend, he holds the NM archery record shot in 06, i hunted with him last year, we had 6 bulls one night fighting over 3 cows, the two biggest ones were actually fighting, a 380 class and a 400 class bull, of the 6 bulls the smallest one was about a 340 6x6, here is his bull from 06

I'll be out bow huntin' for one this week-end!!  I'm going to go for a cow during archery, a bull second rifle, and I bought a leftover doe tag for third (I'll take my wife out for a bull during this season also).

out of state colorado is outrageous though
I can hunt, wyoming, pronghorn, kansas whitetail, and resident texas whitetail, for the price of an out of state tag and license for colorado
keep colorado, Ive got 3 points for elk and mule deer in wyoming now
look out 09

how much is an out of state license for colorado for bull?? i know the tags gotta be alot..cuz even over here in new mexico a good private land bull elk tag is around 3000$ dollars here where i live..in fact i sell mine to my outfitter for 4000$ a tag..and then the license is less than a hundred dollars for resident but out of state is i think a few hundred..but i would think colorado would be a little more expensive

I'm jealous of all you guys who get to elk hunt...I am in Texas and we don't have that opportunity.  I will some day though.  Good luck to all this season.

early archery bull tag is around 900 then the out of state I think is 300
my kansas hunt is 323 for buck tag and 70 out of state
wyoming is 225 for buck and 5 for stamp
I cant find a good bull in colorado anyway

I was a non-resident last year and I paid $500+ for my bull tag.  You can only hunt a cow and a bull in certain circumstances, one of them being and over the counter archery cow tag and an over the counter rifle bull tag.  On page 5 or 6 of the Colorado DOW book, it shows all of the conditions you have to go through.  Mike, where do you live in New Mexico?

well if you do end up wanting to go..your to late to apply for new mexico public draw..but you can buy a private land permit at any time..youll just end up having to pay anywhere from 1000 to 8000 dollars for a bull and 400 to 1200 for a cow..and then you still gotta pay your license fee...but private land tags are pretty expensive..but most of the time its worth it..
