Well I made it to great lakes dragway today to do some 1/4 times.

It was my first time ever running the 1/4 mile so I really didnt know what to expect.

My first run I was up against a Kia Rio. I didnt get the truck spooled up, slept on the line and the engine shutdown before 1,000'. I netted a 2.02 60' and a 14.7 1/4 at 73mph I believe.

The next run I was against really strong running Rat Rod that had a sign on the trailer that said it was the fastest of its kind in the world but that may have been his other car or something.

He broke at 60'. I took time to spool my truck up and dropped my 60' to 1.96. But again coasted through to the finish with a high 13 second pass.

My next run was against a 350Z, I spooled it up and slept on the line, netted a 1.9 60' again and coasted through to the finish with a 14.323. The 350Z was all out at 14.333

The next run I tried a different tune that was on my switch which I new had rail pressure issues. I was against myself and got distracted, I didnt spool it up, and slet on the line again. The rail pressure loss really did a number and I coasted through to a 15 second pass with a buinch of codes.

I decided to try the old tune one last time. i was up against a drag prepped older camaro. I spooled up to 2600RPM taking full advantage of my 1055 torque converter. Slept off the line and lauched hard spinning all 3 tires until it cuaght 2nd then went through the gates at 13.76. The camaro had a 13.4. The spinning really took its toll as I had a 2 second 60' again. But my motor stayed alive till the finish

The trans really woke the truck up and with some more tim spent on set up and tuning I think I can hit low 13s.

My EFI Live wasnt funtioning properly so I was stuck with the tunes on my switch which werent very good. I wish I couldve worked on tuning it more but oh well.

It was a fun time and the truck is still in one piece. The trans was shifting decent but rough. Mostly due to tuning.

Im investigating the engine limp mode ordeal. Its not making any sense. Im thinking its rail pressure.

No im not in low and my gears are stock 3.73s and I have the speed limiter set to 256mph.

I have the EFI Live working right again so maybe Ill head down again soon. this time with some tires that hook up and maybe Ill even bolt the cal tracs back on. hopefully they work better for drag racing then for sled pulling.

may be way off but it wouldn't be the first time ...

i remember a guy with a duramax voicing frustration that he couldn't do a good burnout because the TRANNY had his ENGINE in limp mode ...

i know it sounds crazy but that is what he said ...

Your transmissions is getting to much pressure on the peice and senses it, throws it into limp

Guys take it back a step here. Listen to what I said, it not tranny related.

Now I dont wanna sound like an a$$ or anything but I know my truck and the duramax/allison platorm very well. I also know exactly how to fix this problem now. It was simply something overlooked.

The things you guys are talking about is transmission limp mode. In transmission limp mode it will not do anything to the engine tuning but it will put the ally in 4th gear and not let it out. Until you take it out by means of shutting the truck down or removing the codes.

I am talking about something completely different here. My transmission does not limp, has not limped and probably never will limp again.

As for the problem with my truck it is in the pudding. Engine limp mode, I dont know how many timjes I have to say it but it is engine limp mode none the less.

Why do I get it?? Thee tune I was running had a litle too high of a pulse width so I would loose engouhg rail pressure to trigger Engne Protection Stage 1 which is a temporary limp mode meaning the motor will come back shortly after the limp (usually 2-5 seconds). Keep in mind the eingine doesnt shut down or even reduce fueling or timing. I still have the same exact tune it just limits the RPMs to 2000, which is a big drop fro 4000 when your barreling down the track.

read my post again ...

i'm running a full dtt and my best quarter time was 13.76 without making any boost off the line (long story)

so i know the diff between tranny limp and engine codes

but the guy in the pits was voicing a similiar situation, and was happy six ways from sunday when another maxy-pad laptop boy came over and discovered it was a tranny code (not limp mode) that was giving him fits

like i said i've been wrong before ..

I know that you know your truck thats why I stay out of it. If You have a problem I know you can solve it.

The Allison TCM is different in a millon ways from the dodge one.

I have disconvered my issue and the proof is in the pudding. it is indeed an engine programming issue.

Im not saying you are wrong about the other guy, You are most likly 100% correct. Im just stating about my truck. You havent seen all 200 tables in my tune and nobody else has. I would assume you havent played with EFI live either. There are a lot of bugs to work out once a basic tune is created. Just to clear things up.

If the guy you are referring to is running a stock tranny than I would bet the farm that it was a transmission problem. I simply overlooked a few tables when creating that tune as it is a dily driver tune and I did not want to disable too many safety features.

Like I said I dont wanna sound like an A$$. But I may be coming off that way. Im a little hystrung and stressed out right now.
