Alright - got a question for everyone. Its been a long time since I've had a dog to go in heat.

So here's my deal. My 11 month old lab just went into heat 3 weeks ago. I was out of town at the time so my wife called to tell me. Well she put her in her fence and we thought everything was all good. Never saw another dog around or anything(we live way out in the country).

Well now that she's out of heat or in the final stages - I'm a little concerned another dog was able to get to her somehow. Reason for my suspicion is because her t**s are swollen some and her ribs are showing but she's not unhealthy. Her stomach is kind of bulging a little (maybe that I've been feeding her pretty good but...) Is that normal when a dog is in heat for the t**s to swell too?

She's a full blooded silver lab and I have all intentions of breeding her in the future with another lab but not with some stragly(msp ?) mut that was roaming around and happened to get up on her.

Normally a female dog will be in heat for 21 days, 7 days coming into heat and 7 days for the middle (which is the time conception can happen, then 7 coming out of heat.... the pregnancy will last normally for 63 days. The mammary glands may begin to enlarge as early as the 35 day of the pregnancy and milk may become be present 7-10 days before the delivery.
Hopefully as Bunk650 said she is just going through a "false pregnancy"
The sure way to know is to either take her to vet for xray or just wait and see what happens...

If you are that worried take her to the vet and they can tell you.

DONT WORRY shes OK I just went thru this with my 11mo old pit. I got 2 a brother and sister, got him fixed right after she started cuz I forgot about that part LOL. I thought I was too late though because about 2 weeks after she was done, the same as you describe happend to her. Swollen belly, nipples, ribs poking out etc. that was last month and all has gone back to normal now. It is just something that happens to them as I was told. That they get all the signs but might not be pregnant

My Boston has been though 4 heats and reacted the same way. I also bred her once. Do not take her to the vet because there is very little they can tell you and it is very unlikely that pups would show on an xray yet. Like someone else said, wait and see. My bet is she is NOT pregnant.

i think it just might be the dogs hormones. i'm not a vet but i've been out of town and come home to find out my dog is in heat as well. her t**ts are swollen but not sagging and we have taken every precaution known to keep other dogs out and away. i have an electric fence around my property and my dog knows not to get next to the fence. we keep her kenneled at night or when we are not home. have not seen any other dogs around or any signs of them being around my fence.
