I've only seen that warn has a synthetic rope for their winches. Does anybody else make this that might be cheaper?

Amsteel blue is great.  i love mine.  i saw both the warn and amsteel side by side and i thought the amsteel looked way stronger.  google "amsteel blue".

i too have a viper with amsteel.  i have yet to actually get to use it but when i get home, i sure will.  my question is, has anyone ever heard of it breaking?  and if so, would it whip back and hit you?  or just fall to the ground?  like outdrsmn82, i dont want hit with anything either.

I have the amsteel and it works great. I have even had it digging into the ground and still no signs of fraying.

I have AmSteel.  Best stuff out there IMO.

Mine frayed and broke, but spliced it back into itself and it's been good ever since.  When it broke it was under full load of my winch.  It broke, then fell right to the ground.  No snap-back or energy retention whatsoever.

It is better than steel wire in every way except abrasion resistance.  Do yourself a favor and get the longest protection sleeve you can get for it.

it will fall to the ground unlike the cable. thats why i love it so much and its also easier to handle. im very pleased with it. dont have to worry bout burrs or breaks in it stabbing you while you are running your hands down it to make sure its not tangled.

AmSteel no matter who you buy it from as long as it is authentic AmSteel or AmSteel Blue is much safer than Steel Cable.
Watch out for the imitation though! (Blue Steel)
If you have any questions about it do not hesitate to cotact me about it.
