I have done searches, and found lots of info. regarding which clutch kits to buy, and how to set them up, but I have not been able to find, and wanted to ask a question. I am preparing to purchase and upgrade to the 29.5 Laws and put a HL 2" lift kit on my Outty. I was wondering if, with the bigger tires, will I need to install a clutch kit, or can the 800 handle turning the Laws with the stock set up? I plan to eventually upgrade to a clutch kit to improve performance, but for now, will the stock tranny handle it? Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can give.

I put in the dalton kit and all it did was burn belts. put the stock weights back in with dalton primary spring and it works way better.  I would stay away from the lift kit, it is harder on the axles if you have a heavy thumb.  just do the pipe lift on the shocks.

Thanks for the advice guys. lpiller, I have been told by others on here that the HL lift is not that bad, and should work fine. There have been mixed reviews on that lift, and the only concern I have heard of is the rear trailing arms being at too great an angle for the drive shafts. The only thing is, the HL lift is a pipe lift in the rear, using spacers, and brackets in the front, so I am not sure what the difference is, other than the front brackets.

the HL kit is fine.  the spacer lift in the rear doesn't allow the trailing arms to drop down below where it is designed to go.  people have had problems when the put the 2" lift on and big outlaws, but don't exercise thumb control   will you break something?  possibly, that is the nature when you put on equipment that wasn't in the manufacturers design goals.  but there are enough people who run 29.5's and 2" lifts without any issues.

i know alot of people are running the dalton clutch kits with good luck but i also have a buddy who has had 29.5's for quite a while with no clutch kit and hasnt had a problem. but we dont ride alot of mud we mainly ride in the water and we use low gear 90% of the time unless were in the straight parts of our trails we ride high gear. but im probably going to get the dalton kit here pretty soon for some more bottom end grunt. but from what ive seen i if you ride smart and use low gear when necessary i dont see why a clutch kit would be 100% necessary.

Moose1217, it's not about enough power. The Outty has that in spades. It's about the correct RPM to more easly find the best power range. If you ride a lot of thick mud our clutch kit will help. When you are at a dead stop in deep, thick mud is where the clutch kit really helps. The reason is the kit gives you a higher RPM engagement point delivering more torque to get moving. It also helps the belt not to slip as bad. Our lift kit seems to work OK on your model ATV and not cause to much stuff to break when combined with monster tires, but does not mean you can't break stuff. However, understand if you drive smart you will lower the risk of breakage. Lifts and big aggressive tires when combined with heavy thumbs, poor driving skills, a big ego and two six-packs of beer do break a lot of stuff.......lol. Another item you need if you don't already have one, is a snorkel, as water gets into your system easy.

Thanks bushhog, that's the info. I was looking for regarding the clutch kits and the lift. I knew the motor could turn them easily, but was worried about burning up the belt from too much slippage if I really needed one. I wish you could say your lift was better for the Outtys, but as long as you are condoning it with smart driving skills, I'm still sold on it. Hopefully, those Deer Lease trips won't get too out of hand...lol   BTW, why did the price of the tires and the lift kit recently go up?

ive heard some people talkin about the 650 helix on the 800's what exactly does it do when you swap them. how does it affect the bikes performance thru the rpm range.

that will greatly depend on your current clutch setup, tires, and riding style.  there's a nice long thread on aurorawheelers forum about the 650 helix.
