Honda has updated the Big Red wenbsite. It no longer says anything about a torque sensitive front differential and it says that the 3 selectable drive modes are in fact, 2wd, 4wd, and "all wheel" diff lock.

Check it out http://powersports.honda.com/bigred/

As discussed in another post, I bet its a locking rear differential.

Have they always advertised the transmission as a torque converter style?  I don't remember reading that before; I know they have always said three speed.  That really sucks, this means that the 09 model(s) will be sporting this piece of junk transmission.  No engine braking and slippage in cold weather

May have waited this long to update the website to hide the locker on the new rincon...maybe?

Thats what I first thought, actually I was the one who pointed that out. When I made my first asumption it had stated the Big Red had a "Torque Sensitive front differential" just like the rest of the Honda 4x4 line-up. But since then they have removed that and put this new information up, making me think that it is, in fact a FRONT diff lock.

If it read that on the Yamaha, Can-Am, Kawasaki, or Polaris website, there would be no questions asked.  I believe Honda just stepped up their game.  But we will not know for sure until later.

Well, Honda has always released their unchanged 2009 models in June the and the changed models in September, this always gave us an idea of what was being revamped. This year however, they didn't. One thought that crossed my mind is that maybe all of the Honda 4x4's are getting this feature for 2009? This would only leave the Recon, and 420 Rancher 2x4 that are unchanged, and Honda might not of bothered to update their website with just 2 unchanged machines?
I think that the Rincon is definately getting this for 2009, mark my words, if this is actually front diff lock the 2009 Rincon will have it. Itroduced in 2003, revamped with more power, disk brakes, EFI and all of the 650's kinks worked out. 2009 should be the next big year for it, possibly more power and diff lock?

I say they need to put the differential lock on the Rincon and then put the rubicon tranny in with the five speed high low with esp and auto!  Then Honda would have a bad a$$ muddin machine but I know they could care less about that!

If they would add the diff lock and just one more gear to the tranny it has now and make it a real low gear the quad could do both, it would be one of the best trail quads and be one of the best mud quads..
it just needs a first gear that tops out about 15mph with 30s on it..lol

One thing i liked on the rincon from other quads is when its topped out in low you dont have to stop to get into the next gear you just push a button, would make it real fast for its class if it had a super low gear for first gear..

Im probably about to get bashed out my mind, but who is Vanilla Ice? And what did he do to make himself so unpopular?

And if they added this new feature to the Rincon, it would definently help me make-up my mind on which ATV to get next.

In my opinion Honda has, not the best mud diff ,but a great all around ease of maintainance, easy on the arms to steer torque sensing diff that is great in accurate predictable fast flat snow trails and fast hill climbing where youre arms dont feel to fall off after a fulls day ride in 4WD.
anyways theres no challenge with a locking diff.
real men do it on a 3.5 wheel drive,.
LIKE I SAID BEST ALL AROUND AND THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT.ALL AROUND FOR ALL CONDITIONS

The top speed on the big red is 38 mph, so undoubtly its geared down more than the rinny. If not, it will probably not shift into 3rd! Pluse it has a tow weight of 1200lbs. The rinny was not recommened for towing. Some lower gears somewhee.

Well all ATVs look butt ugly when they are stock! Throw a front/rear bumper combo on it, some nice rims, some decent muddin tires, a winch, MAYBE a light bar only with LED strobes instead of extra lights, a bumpin sound system, and (just for the heck of it) a big lift on it, and I bet it wont look butt ugly anymore!

i think  a rincon will run allmost 30 mhp in 1st so it has to have some low gears to run only 38 in 3rd mabey they will be lowenough to turn 31's stock lol rather it have low gears for mud than high gears for speed cant go but so fast through the mud anyways lol

I would imagine it would have to have a locking/unlocking rear diff to meet the demands by many agg consumers... as far as the front, it has been rumored that honda may put something like HL's detroit gearless locker in their machines.  But regardless, if they have that pos rincon tranny in there it's either going to be about the slowest side by side or it won't be able to pull anything... I'm thinking they probably kept the same tranny and geared down the diffs, making it slower than a kubota.  Would love to get another honda if they decide to step it up finally.

ATVtech... you'll notice that not too many people care about who sells more units... this is a mud riding site.. we want performance with reliability, and honda has fallen off that pedestal a while back

Well all i have to say is my RZR is rated to pull 1500lbs and does 58mph and also looks amazing for a side by side. Oh also all 4 wheels pull. Not knocking the Honda but the plastic on the big red looks like some cheap knock off side by side
