We're thinking about getting some Crushlocks for a Sportsman 800.  Any recommendations, opinions, suggestions......

im sure ill get flammed for this but i just dont like them .... its not good to flex a tire like that its going to deterioate the tire. I guess if you dont care about going through tires faster than normal its ok but i would like to know how long people have been running them

I would agree with that because you're only going to use them in a pit. I wouldn't think you could use those wheels in a trail.

The CrushLoks are awesome in the pits and yes, you can run them in the trails as well. We've done it before.

The Crushlocks are without a doubt the best setup for a "Mud Bog Race." Nearly every bike that won this weekend at was running a set of Crushlocks. Would I run them on the trail? No. Not because I feel they would damage the tires, but because they simply wouldn't be the best setup for trail riding.

Yah these were not built for trail riding. They are strictly a race rim and they work awesome for what they are made for.

The EDL's that Adam ran on the 400 did great in the pit this past weekend.

And when you think about it, mostly everyone was running Crush Loks. Lol. They are definately a great rim for mud bogging.

So do you simply run them without any air in the wheel?

Rubber isnt made to be under pressure with that kind of flex. It like driving your car with underinflated tires. the extreme flex causes the tire to Flake/rub/wear away from the inside causing the sidewall to get weak leading to sidwall cracking or a blow out.  Its not like it going to happen right away and i understand that is not a trail setup, but its not good for the tires .... why not gust use tractor tires?

They have a normal air valve welded to the wheel and you run however much air you choose. They can be seen in the pics above, particularly, Josh's post with the green painted bead locks. The valve is at the 12:00 position.

no, it squeezes the tire together so it skinnier and has less air in it

Hek you are partially right we can run less air for less floatation on top of them being skinnier for less floatation.

the point of the tire is to pull the treads down the side wall for side bite .. if you wanted less flotation you would fill the wheel with water

that is not true because they are not used in ruts, they are only for racing in mud pits

The point of the wheel is to squeez the tire in creating a narrow contact patch that will grab and bite the bottom of the pit for maximum traction......you can fill the tire with some air....water .....or even 0psi of air to keep floating down...

This wheel is not reccomended for everyday mud riding ,as it was designed for mud racing only.
