While tearing down my 660 to replace crank, I noticed my piston is developing cracks in the 4 corners where the skirt starts on the piston. The piston is a 0.10" over Wiseco. Anyone have any idea why this would have happened. It has about 4-450 miles on it. The bike did heat up once but not bad, mabey up to 210.

exesive piston to cylinder clearance. When the piston reached the top of the stroke it rocks on the way down. You probably have a couple deep ridges at the top of the cylinder.

over heat will also cause 4 corner scuffing or cracking on any engine

Bore that sucker .60 over and be done with it.  Run some 93 and that grizz will turn any tire.

No wear on the cylinder. Two very minor marks (won't catch your finger nail) vertically in the bore. Talked to machine shop in town today and he figures it is heat induced or not enough break in time. Did some quick measuring and skirt is shrunk up a bit. Ordered up a couple pistons (1st and 2nd over) to see if he may have gave a little too much clearance. One other note, I did blow a head gasket after installing initially, causing the overheating.
