Alright, started digging into my Brute tonight after I got my primary puller. For reference I have I have 27" Mudlight XTR's on 14" rims. Upon disassembling I discovered the EPI pink primary spring, Red Secondary, and 54 gram weights. Which, EPI kit is this? Mudcrazee, I read "the post", it amazing and VERY informative.  If I'm not mistaken, this is one of the extreme duty kits and I will lose top end from it. This is definitely what I'm not looking for. Also wanted to mention that the belt was thrashed... large chunks of belt missing and such.

Ok, my goals are to have a great trail bike. If the bike didn't come with the XTR's I wouldn't have upsized to them, but they do look VERY nice. I ride the bike on trails and at the deer lease. It may see good mud once or twice a year tops.

I love tuning the clutches, so getting it just right for me will be half the fun. I really want to try Heelclicker weights in the primary. I'm trying to gather information on why this doesn't work well in the brutes. I also am looking for the spring rates for the stock primary, secondary and the weight of the stock weights.

My clutch tuning background comes from my Sportsman 400, which is VERY different. On my 400 I use the maroon spring and it engages JUST off idle. With the pink spring in the Brute you can really feel the stall IMO. This might have been because of the bad belt. *edit* just noticed the springs are different between the Polaris and Kawasaki. Similar, but still different */edit*

Anyways sorry for the long post but I wanted to put all the information out there. What works for this bike and this setup?

Thanks,
Michael

you should not be feeling any stall at all because the pink primary is softer then stock.. also you need to do away with the red.. id probably run maroon secondary and leave the pink primary.. the weights is probably giving you the stall.. you need some 58g

Answering my own question here, but I figured I'd post the info for other users.

Stock primary is 0-13-152 for 750i's and the secondary is 62-205

the springs for the irs utes are as follows (both springs are the same for the bf650i & bf750i)...

primary spring
2.5"-2.25"-1.25"

0-13-152

secondary spring
2.5"-1.25"

62-205

Yeah thats defiantly a mudders kit for large heavy tires. The truth is you could get away with stock springs and weights for those tires. The stock weights are 58 grs. I would suggest replacing them if you can. I'm far from a clutch guru but what little experience I've gained over the past 3/4 of a year of playing with mine would say for your trail riding you best bet would be stock weights, maroon primary spring with stock brute secondary spring. I believe you will really like that setup. If you plan to do a lot of mud riding i would suggest a almond secondary as well but you really don't need it for mostly trail riding. Just be sure you use low gear in all the right areas like steep hill climbs and low speeds and mud riding.

You may also want to look into the VForce John Stage 3 spider mod for your primary. It will add top speed. The setup i listed above will all ready give you back some top speed you have lost with that mudders kit but the stage 3 will give you even more.

Have fun with it. I enjoy experimenting with my clutch too.

I've been told by others that the Maroon/Almond combo is the sweet spot. I'll probably end up with the pink/almond combo because I really can't justify spending money on the maroon when the pink is very similar in design. I read about the VForce Clutch mods and I'm really excited about it, but I need to get the beast running first before I start modding :P. I've only had amount 5 minutes of seat time on this thing and am ready to get rid of the KEBC.

Could I run two stock and two EPI 54g? May not like it, but may just want to try it out. I know other people have mixed weights as long as they are on the opposite side of the clutch from each other, I didn't know if 2 different brands would make a difference though.

Thanks for the help!

If you want a maroon spring you may find some one on HL that will trade with you. Thats how i got the maroon primary spring I'm running now.I had a green secondary i was not using and traded to another member.

As for the weights I'm not sure about that one. I know you can mix them but i don't know enough to give advise about it.

I can say with all four stock weights in mine the maroon has just a little stall. I mean not much at all.Barely above stock. I also like how the maroon raises the shift out RPMs.And hold you in a slightly higher RPM range through out the shift out.
