I am looking for a little more performance out of my machine... I have a k&n filter, a jet kit but no other aftermarket (performance) items...  I understand that I will lose top end which is ok... Where I ride is lots of hills, rocks & slower riding which is why I am looking at more low end performance rather than top end speed..... Are there brands to stay away from?  Brands to research & look at buying?  I have 26" ITP Terra Cross Tires so not much bigger than stock.... Given my style of riding, any thoughts would be appreciated....

A cdi isn't gonna help with low end at all. All it does is remove the rev limiter. There really isn't an easy or cheap fix for low end. 4bama1 knows a little washer trick to help low end, but it will take some top end away. Might be something you are interested in.

Put some 16 gram weights in the primary and probally a blue spring in the secondary since you dont have but 26" tires

If you get a CDI that is advancing the timing, especially on the bottom, you will see an improvement.
I would call EPI and see what they recommend for clutching. Normally they change the internal engagement springs and that will help get the motor into a better powerband before the engagement. Their kits will also change the roller weights and secondary spring.
When looking at aftermarket sheaves, be sure they supply the "underdrive" washer as this is more what you are after. Or find someone that knows the "washer trick" mentioned above as a $0.50 washer is a lot cheaper than an aftermarket sheave.
