I got a crazy idea a few weeks ago and it works! I dont know if anyone else has done this before but heres my set up.
Waterproof MP3 bag... $10.00 Acadamy Sports/outdoor store
Weatherproof speakers....$20.00 circuit city
Water tight box $8.00 Acadamy
Old amp.... $10.00 pawn shop
wires and other stuff for install.... $12.00
total $60.00

Its not the loudest but it works GREAT, I hook up my Ipod to the amp with a "Y" split RCA cable and jam out

I know bose is good. Not sure about boss though. For that price, it'd be hard to turn a deal like that down.  that's an awesome price for everything though. Good idea.

That's pretty awesome...and it works pretty well to? I just don't have the money right now to go out and spend $250 bucks on an Audiopipe and I've been lookin for a cheap(ish) way to build a stereo! No problems so far with it?

i actually have pretty much the same setup, just different equipment.  I've been looking for a waterproof case for my mp3 player, since it's a Sandisk and there's nothing specifically made for it.  i think you just found that solution for me.  how's the case you bought hold up?  how did you mount it?  i'm tired of having to go into my waterproof case to change the song/station or turn it down.

sasquatche:  i have a clarion 40x2rms amp and wired it with a 4way trailer coupler with the power fused at the battery, and the remote turn-on for the amp wired to a relay wired to the key, and of course grounded to the frame as close as possible.  no problems with the charging system using the small amp i have.

do you just tie in to either the fuse box or battery, or do you need another power source?

We built one out of a cheap box from walmart that had the speakers in it already. Cut a spot out of the box for the cd player with a marine cover and mounted an antenna to the box. The box was carpeted but we sprayed rubberized coating on it. On the trail only the person riding hears it but when we stop You can hear it good.
