Good Info, but I haven't pressure washed mine and I wash it with my water hose and a log handled brush and I am in the process of peeling the last of my camo off, oh well. It actually looks pretty good as a tan fourwheeler.

For everyone's info, Simple Green, STP Son of a Gun, Black Magic, and alot of other cleaners, tire shine products are on the list.  I just e-mailed Purple Power to see if the chemical was in thier degreaser.  I guess I'll never have a shiny Rincon again!

Great post ATV Tech.

Anybody know if McGuiar's car wash soap contains the buto-whatever stuff?  From the page cited it looks OK from what I can tell...

http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=13006009

So far, my camo has been perfect.

only thing i use is dawn dish washing soap in a bucket of water ,then hand wash, then at the end i dry it and add wd-40 to the frame and armor all to the tires, i dont add anything to shine my fenders, maybe i need to check if the dawn soap has something in it

If you have a question about a product you use that's not on the list, e-mail the manufactuer and they should answer your question.  I found out Purple Power dosen't have that chemical in it by e-mailing them this morning.

Yeah, I kind of doubt McGuiar's soft wash jell would have anything too harsh in it.  It doesn't even remove wax.

Is there any difference between Honda's first camo machines a few years back and what they make now as far as durability is concerned? It would definitely be worth knowing before buying a camo TRX whether or not things are improving with time re. the peeling issue.

No difference.  They haven't learned from their mistakes yet.

Basically no difference regarding the camo's durability, which is why it is imperative that owners of camo plastic follow Honda's directions when cleaning their ATV's.  Boomstick.

I did and NO WHERE in the original post are "Hondas directions" so that's why I asked. If Hondas directions are nothing more than..."A garden hose with regular water pressure", is that supposed to be someones idea of a joke to clean a off road vehicle?

(Sorry guys, my mistake.  I didn't realize that the vocabulary spoken by Honda in the opening post was too advanced for most people on this forum.  Here is a more HL-friendly version.)

Carin' Fo' Camo

In th' Seppember issue, we provided yo' wif some tips on how t'care fo' TRX hidewawk. This hyar month, we're hankerin' t'focus on carin' fo' camouflage hidewawk.

Fust, a li'l backgroun': Camo hidewawk is created wif a hydrographic process in which a film of camo pattern adhars t'th' base material of th' ATV plastic. Once th' pattern is on th' plastic, a clear coat is applied t'proteck it an' t'provide some light abso'pshun.

Also, th' plastic hidewawk itse'f is designed t'be flexible. This hyar is done fo' durability, comfo't an' safety reasons. Th' trade-off fo' this hyar flexibility is redooced scratch resistance an', in some cases, chemical resistance. Fo' example, hard surfaces, sech as painted steel an' glass windscreens, doesn't need t'be flexible, so they're made wif mo'e scratch an' chemical resistant materials.

Wif this hyar in mind, doesn't clean camo hidewawk wif th' same chemicals yo' use t'clean painted metal o' windscreens.

Honda ingineers haf foun' thet some of th' cleaners thet dealers is usin' – includin' ev'ryday household cleaners – kin be harmful t'camouflage. In fack, studies show thet one of th' additives in these cleaners, 2-Butoxyethanol, acshully soffens th' clear coat, an' makes it susceppible t'damage o' peelin'. Eff'n yer hankerin' t'find out eff'n th' cleaners yer usin' haf 2-butoxyethanol, log onto th' follerin' website:

http://householdproducks.nlm.dawggoneit.nih.gov

By typin' "2-Butoxyethanol" into th' website's search box, yo' kin find out eff'n th' cleaners yer usin' haf this in'redient an' recommend producks thet will give yer cestomers th' best, long-term satisfackshun wif their camo hidewawk.

Finally, remember thet pressure warshin' might be great fo' strippin' paint an' degreasin', but it isn’t recommended fo' use on powerspo'ts producks, cuss it all t' tarnation. As a juneral rule, a garden hose wif regular water pressure is th' bess way t'rinse off enny Honda moto'cycle, TRX, MUV, o' PWC.
