i saw those, what would the upside of a lower gear set, over just adjusting the clutch?

Running 28" tires would be like running stock tires on a stock motor, that would mean HUGE GAINS for guys with the Built stuff and Spray!

I disagree.  I think it would wind you up in rpms and top you out to fast.  No real speed. JMO

Do you think the Brute's wind out too fast with stock tires? Like was said before it would return you back to stock final gearing after the installation of 28-30" tires.

It would put less of a sirain on your clutch but would increase torque to the rest of the drive train. The question is can the front diff and axles take anymore torque. I know you can upgrade the axles but you are still stuck with that weak front diff. If you try to pass more torque to bigger tires then that will be the weakest link.....  mighty expesive one at that.

What some inovative soul needs to come up with is a replacement for the spider, ring, and pinion gears in the diffs. A person would sell a buttt load if they did.

Think of it as going from 1st gear to granny low. It will increase engine rpm  and lower wheel speed .... But... increase torque to the wheels.

Two main reasons you loose topend with big tires is the weight/ rolling resistance of the tires and the clutch setup you have to use to run them . The clutch with a red secondary will take 10 mph by itself.

Yes it will return you same power you lost from the get go with the Big Tires, now add some 90 mm pistons and a big set of cams and a 30 shot and you will have some axles blown apart and some Diff Gears Busted also, but it depends on how you run it,most guys brake these parts riding not Bog Racing in the water pits like at Mud Nats, but get hung up in a Mud Hole with reall mud and spray it and you will pro brake something, lots of tracksion and power and nothing in the motor bogs down then something has to Break

you are not getting more torque.  It is still the same amount of power.  the only thing that changes is how it is put to the ground.  If anything it is going to make it easier on the diff because the gearing is more adequate for the bigger size tire.

Its like running 40's with 3.08 gears when the truck originally came with 31's.  You change the gears out to 4.56's and be close to the stock configuration again.

If you had bigger tires it would return you to close to the stock gearing.  It would depend on what size tire you were running.  You have to measure the true size though.

Is that clear as mudd or what!

This would be true if you where changing gears in the diff , but, you are not. you are changing the gearing of the bevel gears in the trans. It produces more rotating force (torque) from the gear reduction down the line through the diff to the tires. If the tires gets hung up then somethings gonna give.  But...anyway... yes in theory it can move you closer to stock final gearing....But nowhere near to stock tire size performance and speed.  I knowwww..... if your running 30's you aint concerned with speed.

both repooc and spacemonkey on here have them installed already.  they say they are good but neither have said they were great mods but did say they put tremendous strain on the diff  and axles.

X2!!
But I'm guessing these gears are factory Tyrex gears. I have already looked up the p/n's and was going to order a set but ended up buying another bike instead... What is the price listed on the fle-bay set??

brian,

i spoke to that fella repooc in depth about this.  he is one of the guys that had these things designed and he needed a fly wheel puller to install it if that tells you where the gears go.  you know how motor smart i am.  LOL NOT MOTOR SMART.  LOL  hope that helps.

Thanks MetalMan. Mark I remember repooc and a bunch of other guys talking about doing these, in fact a guy in Germany or somewhere does these but I think they gear up for faster top end. Either way they are deffinately bevel gears and they do not need a fly wheel puller to install...
The Tyrex bevel gears are exactly 14.5% undergeared v/s the BF gears. I do not know what these ^ listed are (% of gearing) but I can tell you that factory Tyrex bevel gears run about 1/2 this cost...

hey guys, for future reference, if you want to access a page at your work, but it is blocked... you can still get to it.  Now, this would be done at your own responsibility b/c if your TECH team monitors your internet, then, you can possibly be disciplined and/or fired, depending on your employer.
Anyway, just go to www.stupidcensorship.com and type in whatever website you're trying to access and BOOM!  There you go.  Now, wasn't that easy??

the added benifit is the machine will turn those big meats like nothing else. and your belt will have less stress on it. We had our own made gear set in and boy these are half the price it took me and my buddy to make our own. but we made ours on a cnc machine. we had them in but removed them cause i didnt need them at the time.
but i might be reinstalling them when i get my new 28" SB's so i can turn them in the deep stuff with out stressing my belt to much.

you can still run 28" in high range in stock form but you put alot of stress on the belt. when I had my set made. in the same ratio. it would pull wheelies like nothing in high range with 28" tires. in low range i could pull a stump out of the ground.

its worth the money if your mudding alot of pulling some heavy wt.

I removed my setup for now since im only running 28" mudlights. once i get my new 28" SB's I'll reinstall it and retune my clutch for the best setup.
also if your gona be turning 30" plus tires you wont loose that much topend power. with the gear kit your engine wont really feel the larger tires. the down side it more TQ being put on the diffs and CV-joints since your increasing the out put of the engine.

Well i looked into the gear reduction and it appers that the gears that are on ebay are from a Teryx.
Stock gears in a Brute are 12 tooth and 20 tooth.
Stock gears in a Teryx are 11 tooth and 21 tooth.
Thats like 15% reduction with will be great for big tires to get some stress off the belt but you will be putting lots of stress on axles and diffs. But it will be well worth it if you have good throttle control, and also it should be great for racing in a pit.You should beable to ride around in high gear with bigger tires without a problem, but you will still have to clutch your bike depending on how you will be riding.I will be ordering mine today and i give a report on the reduction as soon as i can get the gears installed.Im going to try and run my bike in high gear in the pit with my 31' outlaws but thats going to be pretty hard to do but it maybe possible.

By the way you can order the OEM gears for $240.44 for the Teryx that sure beats $500 off of EBAY.

All we really need is gears for the diffs, I think that'd be better than the gear reduction.

I wonder if we can get a large enough group buy to send a request and some differentials to Randys Ring and Pinion and see if we could get some gears made for our Brutes.
