Getting light puffs of black smoke on mid/high power! pretty sure it's the air fuel mix being to rich! 140/148 jets 1.75 turns a/f screws!Should turn it in more perhaps 1.5 turns from seat!I always get messed up witch way to go.

you plugs should be a nice brown color.. and if it is runing fine your jets should be correct. also the popping you are hearing is from you aftermarket pipe

Letting off of throttle, and backfiring is a clear sign of needing the a/f screw adjusted.  Idle is lean, throw fuel at it.  As for the "good throttle" response even though you are puffing black smoke, if you dropped a jet size, you may notice a better throttle response.

Brute's love it "a little lean".  Not too lean, just a tic.  However, what you are describing is a rich condition.

For a/f mixture screw, let bike idle, then turn screw until bike is idling at it's highest smoothest point (but not past this point).  Adjust idle rpm with the idle turn knob.
