from what I hear, Yamaha and Polaris have it down pretty good.
As well as the H1 Arctic cats.

The only CVT quad I have any experience with is a 05 Kodiak 400 and it never gave me any trouble in the 20 miles I rode it around the yard.

Arctic Cat.

Suzuki

Yamaha

Polaris

Can am

Kawie.

JMOP.
i think AC is above because it takes no grease (grease attracks dirt) and if you sink it and fill it with water all you have to do is drain it and go. I also say this because i got mine 2 deep last weekend and got alot of water in my belt housing and drove it out of the water up hill with very little belt slip. I drained it and went on my way i dont think another belt set up would be able to put down power half full of water.
Also on a 650H1/700H1 you will bog the motor down before it slips a belt even in high gear.
the down side of the AC belt set up that it takes no grease(on the rollers) so its alittle noisyer at times.

Iv had new yamaha and a 08 kawasaki brute force (currently). Never had any prolem with either. the yamaha is smoother on take off. My kawi has a jerk off idle when the tightener tightenes the belt. but its ok.

the can am set up is great and hopefully they have rectified some of the designs previous short comings:
1.the poor oem seal on the cvt cover to the motor, this should have gone away in mid-08'. mine's been bone dry for awhile now.
2. the overall low elevation of the cvt in general.
3. the very low elevation of the oem cvt intake, whichs makes this a must do mod.
4. i love all of the clutching options for the bike and it can be set up as well or better for racing than most.
5. it pulls very smooth, or at least i think it does.

i think that just the general nature of people that buy the bike contributes to a certain amount of premature damage, thus making them seem less reliable than they actually are. most people buy a can-am because regardless of what ever type of riding they do they like doing it fast.

i do however like the design of the popo and the mad response out of the brute.

what ever you buy just get a clutch kit for it for the size of tires you will be running on it, all these belt drives work fine, they all have there ups and downs but if you just throw some big meats on one and do nothing to the clutch you are going to take a chance of slipping or even smoking a belt.

also if you ride deep water plan on snorkeling it, most bikes wont move with a wet belt, but even at that all is needed is to drain it let idel for alittle bit and go on your way taking it easy on it untill it drys out which does not take long at all.
