Hello ATV People,

I have a 2008 Big Bear 400 I.R.S and the front end is making an annoying squeaking sound when I am slowly crawling over stuff - it's not the brakes.  Seems like something in the front suspension needs lubricant.  Any thoughts?

Talking about spraying the underside of the bike with WD-40 I bet that keeps alot of mud off of it ???

There are bushings(collars) on your steering column just below the handlebars that always squeak, that could be the noise you're hearing.

I NOTICED ON MY 04 BIG BEAR THAT THE SQUEAKING IS COMING FROM THE UPPER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS, I JUST GOT A CAN OF WHITE LITHIUM GREASE AND PUT THE STRAW ON IT AND SPRAYED THE HECK OUT OF THE RUBBER BUSHINGS WHILE I WORKED THE SUSPENSION UP AND DOWN. THAT WORKED FOR A FEW RIDES. SINCE I HAVE PULLED THE CONTROL ARMS OFF AND DRILLED A HOLE AND WELDED A NUT AND THREADED A GREASE ZIRK IN. PROBLEM SOLVED.

This is very common on Big Bears. Especially if you have a lift on it. As 05fore said, just spray it down with some WD.

On my wife's 00 Kodiak, I had to take the shocks loose and put white grease in the rubber bushings. No more squeaks.  WD40 is probably a temp fix, but if its a bushing and you want it to go away, grease and be done.  Bc we all know its going to come back in the middle of the ride and you ll have left the WD40 at home. lol

The steering is easy.  I haven't seen any grease nipples in the front end (my BB400 is a 2008)  -  where are they located?   Also, I tried to take the front suspension apart to grease the bushings, but the nuts/heads of the bolts started to mush (they are a soft grade of metal) so I stopped.  I was applying a lot of force with a metric socket/wrench - are the nuts some sort of locking nuts?

its your rubber bushings that are squeaking. get some silicone lubricant  in a spray can and spray the inside of your bushing the best you can, it should come with a small red tube to spray in close. i would stay away from wd-40, for it is mostly made of varsol it will dry out your bushings. and if you want to spray some stuff around your bike to keep the mud off try using vegetable oil in a spray can, at least its environment friendly!!

well you cant grease nuts and bolts ...and everthing else. just bushings which i use grease on. like i said its for rust and purposes which it works great and it will rust if you ride deep water alot
