Lets get all the resets in one post. If you have a BF650, BF650i, Prarie 360-700, lets post the resets to help everyone out. Here is the one for the 750, I'll try to find the rest if noone else posts.

To reset, turn ignition off and pull cvt cover. Put switch inside cover back into "on" postion. Remove seat and disconnect the 2 connectors grey and black and reverse them. They are located if sitting on quad in right rear corner. The grey one is not connected to anything, it's just a reset plug. Grey into black and black into grey. On top of the CVT cover is a black connector that goes to the switch inside the cover, disconnect that at this time. With the 2 still reversed and the black one disconnected, turn the key to the on, but don't start the quad. Observe the belt light. When it stops flashing really fast and starts flashing slow, the belt light is reset. Turn key off, and put the 2 connectors under the seat back to their original connectors and plug the connector switch for the CVT back in. Your done.

  • Straight from NYROC

  • The 2002 650 never needs this light reset procedure. If the belt switch is tripped, adjust the belt and flip the switch back to "ON"(a loose belt flips it to off). A flipped switch will cause a power loss. See bottom of page for location of the switch.
  • 2003 650 and 2004 700 can also have their belt switches tripped by a loose belt. A tripped switch will cause loss of power. Adjust the belt and flip switch to the "ON" position (a loose belt flips it to off). However, the belt light may stay on after flipping the switch back to "ON", or it may have come on automatically at 100 hours to get you to return the machine to the dealer for inspection even though the belt switch is not tripped. The following procedures will reset the light if the belt switch is not tripped. A belt light needing to be reset (such as at 100 hours) will cause early 2003 machines to loose power, but not later ones (I am told). If you aren't sure which procedure to use on your 2003 650, try the first one. If it does not reset the light use the second one.
  • The 360 belt light behavior is very similar to the 650. If at first you can not find the right connectors, keep looking deeper because they really are there. This has been the case with many 360 owners, they found them after looking.
  • There is a procedure in the Vforce folder for the Vforce to reset the light. The Vforce does not have a belt trip switch.
Note: Disconnecting the battery does not reset the light.

Note: there have been rumors that the ON/OFF label on the belt trip switch has been mislabeled on a couple of machines. You may want to double check your switch is flipped toward the rear of the ATV (bad belt flips switch forward). The switch is inside the CVT cover. Do not turn the ignition on with the CVT cover removed or the KEBC motor will spool out and prevent you from putting the cover back on (unplug the KEBC motor if you do).

Note: A poorly connected battery can cause the light to repeatedly come on even if the switch doesn't flip. A bad ignition switch might also be a cuplrit.

Note: Always inspect the drive belt before resetting the belt warning light.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early 2003 650 Belt light reset procedure.

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

    2. Disconnect the belt failure switch at the 2-pin connector above the CVT cover. (Note: Just follow the wires coming from the rectangular black box on the CVT Cover to locate this connector.)

    3. Disconnect both sets of 5 pin connectors located above the CVT cover. Note: These connectors are located just beneath the shift handle on the right side of the 650; one is black and one is grey.

    4. Connect these 5 pin connectors to their opposite pairs (grey to black and black to grey).

    5. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    6. Observe the belt-warning lamp. It should be flashing at a 0.4 second interval for a few seconds then start to flash slower. Let the lamp flash for at least seven seconds.

    7. After seven seconds or more, turn the ignition switch off.

    8. Reconnect 5 pin connectors to their proper location (black to black, grey to grey).

    9. Connect the belt failure switch 2-pin connector (wires from CVT cover).

    10. Turn the ignition switch on to confirm that the belt warning light is not flashing. Retry this procedure if needed. As far as I have heard it always works if the belt switch isn't tripped and there are no electrical problems.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Late 2003 and 2004 700 Belt light reset procedure. (BF650 SRA)

I think it's the early 2003 procedure, but if all else fails try both until you figure it out.

The grey and black plugs on mine and my neighbors 2005 BF 650 are a little bit forward of the fuel shut off valve just below the shifter knob.  Another friend owns a 2006 BF 650 SRA and the connectors are in the same spot, but you don't have the fuel shut off valve on that model because it is under the seat, just dig under the plastic below the shifter and you should find it.  Not sure it that is a fluke or not, but we don't have to take our seat off to reset the belt light.  Also, on ours the black plugs are the reset plugs not the grey ones.  Found this out by pulling one end of the black plug loose and tore the quad down to nothing chasing wires to one dead end after another before I finally just completed the reset info posted here and it worked.  Just thought I would share some differences for those who might have trouble finding the plugs.  Keep up the great work guys!!!!!

I just bought me a Blue 750 with the 14' chrome rims and the XTR's. I really like it so far and it was a hard decision for me to by something other than a Polaris this time around but I was wanting to try something else and this was the best choice for me. I know that I will need this info in the future, and just wanted to say thanks.

Your done.

If it's just the 100 hour causing the light to flash, you do not have to remove the CVT cover and flip the switch. Just swap the plugs and follow the rest of the procedure mentioned above.

Late 2003 and 2004 700 Belt light reset procedure. (BF650 SRA)

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

    2. Disconnect both sets of 5 pin connectors located above the CVT cover. Note: These connectors are located just beneath the shift handle on the right side of the 650; one is black and one is grey.

    3. Connect these 5 pin connectors to their opposite pairs (grey to black and black to grey).

    4. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    5. Disconnect the belt failure switch at the 2-pin connector above the CVT cover. (Note: Just follow the wires coming from the rectangular black box on the CVT Cover to locate this connector.)

Thanks for the belt reset information on this forum. Highlifter makes great products and clearly supports their customers efforts to get the best performance from their ATVs. I want to share something with anyone looking for ATV belt reset information. Their seems to be a lot of confusion and misinformation about the whole belt reset procedure... even Kawasaki recently sent out of technical bulletin to their dealers that later was found to contain mistakes further confusing everyone. They sent out a prompt correction shortly thereafter. Anyway...

"I have a Kawasaki 650 Prairie that has tripped the belt indicator switch for a second time. I replaced the belt the first time and reset the switch but could not erase the darn fault code. I ended up paying the dealer just to reset the fault code. NOT CHEAP! The second time around I decided to buy a factory manual so I could reset the code myself after replacing the belt. They wanted $76.00 bucks and ten days for the manual.

I found Kawasaki 650 Prairie belt reset information at http://www.cyclepedia.com/kawasaki-atv-belt-reset/.

For a small amount of money and a few minutes time we were up and running and tearing up the trails."

    Ride safe all.

i agree Wes she had good info to give out with her experiences.  Is a 2007 BF 650 sra the same as the Late 2003 and 2004 700 Belt light reset procedure. (BF650 SRA).
    i think it is.

Is the procedure for the 03 and 04 650 SRA the same as the 06 model?

This is what to look for.  I know once I knew what to look for it only took a second. A picture is worth a thousand posts.

Thank you then, I had my bike apart looking all over for black and grey WIRES that i had to switch. That's when I did a bigger search and found your picture.  I slapped myself on the forehead and had it finnished in a few minutes.  Figured if it helped me that someone else could use it.

I know that feeling. I looked for forever for wires and never thought about the connectors. This picture saved me alot of frustration.
