My rear diff seal(the right side) has gone bad and is now leaking.Gonna have to take it in, its got the 6 year warranty.

Besides that though, I took my BB in a hole at Crosby that was halfway up the pod. I had it in a wheelie position.Didnt know my BB could go THAT deep lol.

Yeah that's one of the only bad things about the bears is the diff seals.  You'd be amazed at how deep these bikes will go.  I've had mine up to the 90 on top of the snorkel on several occasions.  These things are bullet proof.

Just depends on how much it's leaking.  I wouldn't do it too much though.  If it's just a slow leak then I'd say a few rides.  But a seal is a lot cheaper than a rear diff.  As soon as I saw mine leaking, I went and picked up the seal and put it in.  It can be a PITA to put them in.

Its a slow leak, so i think i should be ok.

I am not putting in the seal myself, its going to the dealer for that.Hopefully, the replace it.They replaced my dads front left cv when he snapped it.Must have been the 31s.lol

You've got a good dealer if they replace a cv on a bike with 31s.  My dealer just snubbs me anytime I show up there let alone if I were to bring in my quad.

if all you do is hardcore mud and water ride like we do then pump it full of grease and you will never have to worry bout it again.

bad idea.... dont do that trust me.. just go get the seal its like 10 bucks takes like 30 mins to change if you have a seal driver. Buy one trust me it be worth it in the end. also so u dont damage the new seal putting it in.

i know this dont have nothing to do with the seals, but i was greasing my joints yesterday and id stick it on the zerk and pump grease but it would only shout out of one of the 4 corners on the joint or sometimes 2 of the corners
should i be worried at all or when it breaks it breaks?

id spend the 10 bucks and replace the seal. get some sea foam or something and flush the diff out.. pumping grease in to the diff will only cause a bigger mess later if you have break in to ur diff to rebuild it then.

i've greased mine once didnt really have proble with the grease coming out of all the joints. I guess you could just keep greasing it till it comes out but that proble be a mess. lol

No need to be worried.  That just means that you are putting too much grease in the joint and it is pushing excess grease past the rubber seals.

YEA I FIGURED THAT, but didnt know if it should go through all the seals or not, the first time i greased them it came out of all of them but i have since rode alot and done alot of mud riding and i figured the mud maybe dried up around the rubber seal there and not letting the grease out no biggy when one fails and breaks then ill replace it

you can replace the seal but after you do it and fill your diff full of grease you wont have to replace them for a long long time. matter of fact since ive switched to grease ive never changed any of mine

How did you get the grease inside the diff?
What kind of grease did you use?
Have you had it apart and checked for wear since you have been using just grease?

I wouldn't trust running just grease.

Reason being is I don't see how it can recoat the ring and pinion gears once the grease has been removed after the gear sets come into contact with each other.

With gear oil, it's viscosity allows it to recoat the ring gear teeth after coming into contact with the pinion gear teeth.  It does this by submerging the gear teeth into a gear oil bath.

But since grease has a viscosity that doesn't allow the gear teeth to be submerged into it, then how do the teeth get regreased?  After coming into contact with the opposite gears' teeth a few times, the grease will be almost non-existent on the wear surfaces of the teeth.

Something tells me that you will be needing new ring and pinion gears more than new seals.

yea what mud_dog said makes alot of sense to me, filling a diff with grease does sound good and all but like he stated once the teeth push the grease out there will be a coating on the gears but eventually that will somehow wear off

I'm a stick with good ole diff fluid.  That way I know when my seals go bad, and when I need to change them.  Diffs are too darn expensive to take that chance.

still better than a 7-800 new diff. or a kawi front diff. then your talking over a grand.

just change the fluid often as you can.  cause them seals are gonna leak. they are simply too big.  i think the they had Artic cat engineers working that day they made that right rear.

mine leaked pretty much after the first weekend of riding.  i still think it has to do in fault also witht he wet brake.

i love  how on the front you have a cavity between the diff and the cup.  if you put a good tacky grease in there. it stays there keeping grit out a LOT longer.

if your gonna run diff oil change the fluid after every ride and not only that flush it a few times especially if you play in the mud and water

Without tearing the diff apart and literally packing every cavity with grease, there's no way to guarentee you have enough in there.

Not only that, but grease does not just stay there.  For example.  Make a bowl of pudding and let it set up.  Take a big scoop out of the center of the bowl with a spoon and tell me if the pudding "just stays there".  It doesn't.  It can't.  It has too high of a viscosity to fill in voids that quickly.

Don't think pudding is a good enough comparison?  Then use grease in a smaller scale experiment.  You will get the same results.

There is nothing out there, no technical information or anything other than a few people recommending to do this that claim it's any better than running gear oil.

It's one of those things where if it was better than running gear oil, then the manufactures would run it from the factory.

Just my view on things from a technical point of view.
