I'm looking to get a new quad soon and was looking at the Cat 700h1 and the King 750. I ride mostly trails, dirt roads, creeks, and some mud. Which of these quads would be best for trails? Which one of these would be the most reliable? Which one of these would I get the most use out of and have the least problems out of?

thanks

I own the 750 King & absolutely Love It! IMO! King for mostly trail riding & H1 for mudding! The H1 is waaaaaaaay heavier, but has a good bit better gc. The King is the faster of the 2 & more agile! Ride both & make your own decision, just use our recommendations for a guess!  Hope it works out for ya & let us know which 1                Brandon

to me it sounds like the king would be the better choice for your uses, but don't count out the cat just yet.

the king's advantages:
more power (dual overhead cams)
lighter (~80lbs)
better handling
slightly higher top speed
more "tunability" with the VDI

the 700H1's advantages:
MUCH better gearing (wider ratio CVT)
more gearing options
more ground clearance (stock)
more pulling power (weight and gearing)
more sitting and moving space (overall a larger machine)
speedrack system (if you have a lot of accessories)

Here's the specifics:

AC 650/700 H1 (37hp/41.5hp)
Primary (V-belt): 2.876 - 0.703
Secondary: 2.562 (41/16) [note: new 09+ secondary is slightly different]
Final:  3.6 (36/10)

Range Reduction                     (Overall)
High:  1.200 (30/25)             (31.831 - 7.781)
Low:   2.500 (40/16)             (66.315 - 16.210)
Rev:   2.000 (28/16x32/28)    (53.052 - 12.968)

With 3.1s (stock in 700 H1)
Range Reduction                     (Overall)
High:  1.200 (30/25)              (27.410 - 6.700)
Low:   2.500 (40/16)             (57.104 - 13.958)
Rev:   2.000 (28/16x32/28)    (45.684 - 11.167)

With 4.0s (stock in Mud Pro)
Range Reduction                     (Overall)
High:  1.200 (30/25)             (35.368 - 8.646)
Low:   2.500 (40/16)             (73.683 - 18.011)
Rev:   2.000 (28/16x32/28)    (58.947 - 14.409)

[I'm still trying to verify the new secondary reduction ratio in the 700 H1... i think it's about 4% lower but not sure yet... either way the cats have a huge advantage in low end gearing, even stock]

King Quad 700/750 (48.5hp/49.5hp)
Primary (V-belt): 2.763 - 0.78
Secondary: 1.904 (40/21)
Final: 3.6 (36/10)

Range Reduction           [Overall]
High: 1.240 (31/25)    [23.484 - 6.630]
Low:  2.563 (41/16)    [48.540 - 13.703]
Rev:   1.882 (32/17)    [35.643 - 10.062]

[there is a 16% reduction available to the king (eiger secondary drive gears), but it requires machining and a good bit of work]

if at some point in the future you decide to make it a mud bike i'd definitely get the H1... with 4.0s you're talking a hideous 52% lower low range starting ratio for the H1. and not to mention a MUCH stronger reverse (66% lower!!!)

the H1 just has gearing potential that the king doesn't. the king will handle a lot better stock since it's shorter and has better suspension geometry for sporty handling. cat offers a sway bar kit that really helps the cat handle much better than stock so it won't be too awful behind the king (the H1's taller ride height and heavier weight still give an advantage to the king).

don't worry about reliability or durability... both are about equal on that end. both have essentially the same CVT design amongst everything else. the king's biggest worry is the output shaft failures, while the H1s used to be plagued by secondary reduction failures (cat has redesigned the secondary to be much stronger this year though). both are EFI and are well-built.

take your pick...
