Man, this has always been a great bike, but the last two trips haven't been the best.  This weekend it drowned out, and had lots of water in the head and airbox.  Since cleaning both out,  I can't get it to run. I have changed the spark plug, cleaned the airbox well, and made sure my new map sensor is still in perfect condition.  Yet, it won't start.

1.  When i try to start it just turns over and over but never starts.

2.  I push the spark plug hose over the  spark plug and push down as far as I can... Yet, each time i start it, it seems to move a little off it and come up a little.. Yet, i know this isn't the cause, cause i held it down  while trying to start and still not luck.  I know somethings wrong, but it isn't the main issue.

3. If i hold it half throttle is makes a sound like its turning over and about to start, yet it NEVER does. If i do it for awhile, I see a little white smoke come out of the airbox snorkle.

4. Battery is fully charged.

5. Yes it has gas.

So with all that said, anyone have some ideas to try?  I want to get it running before the weekend, cause we have all that mud now, and i don't wanna miss out on one of the best rides ever

Thanks
Mark

allmost sounds like you might of lost your compression..?  might try the oil in the cylinder trick and see if that wil help get it going.

Gas is good..? no water in it..?

Water on hot rings can kill them. Does sound like compression loss to me.

BTW, except for it already running good before, it sounds like the timing is 180 degrees out, but I know it already was running fine before the water.

Do a compression check, and check your spark!

I just read your post again... When you cleaned the head, did you take it apart? If you did, then your timing is most likey 180 degrees out. That what it sounds like to me!

If it is your timing, you must be on the compression stroke when you put it on TDC, and then make sure your timing marks line up in each place.

Ouch white smoke. Def need to do a compression test I think you may have cracked a valve or done something to your rings. Do you have a compression tester?

If it is shooting smoke out of the intake, maybe a valve.

I just had the same problem with my 700.  I ended up having to have a new piston and rings put in and have the cylinder honed (not sure if that is spelled right).  Picked it up from the dealer on a monday evening, it quit running that night and it was back in the shop on tuesday morning.  Mechanic said that maybe there was some more trash in the bottom end and might have done the same damage again.  Turns out that a valve keeper had stuck and left the exhaust valve open therefore not giving any compression.  He got it all back together yesterday and I went by today and it runs like a champ.  Sorry for the long post but just trying to give you some reference points.

...could also have water in the gas or a fuel pump/injector failure.  Look in the "helpful links" stick and pull your error cods to know for sure...

You'd need a pod for error codes right?

I havent had a pod on it for probably 4 months.... Less electronics to go.  I have a new one i could put in though and check the error codes.  I hadn't even thought of that yet engie, thanks.

I got side tracked last night and ended up watching pineapple express instead of working on the 700.

I will have an update this weekend for sure..

thanks guys.

I haven't laughed that hard in a few months.. It is definately worth seeing, but don't go if you don't have a good sense of humor.  Most of the humor was related to weed/pot... and it has as many curse words as superbad.  So if you don't care for that kind of comedy, i would skip it

I'd test the compression first.  That should be pretty simple.  Pull the pullcord(or remove the sidecover and manually turn the crank.  Compression will be easy to feel...

I have a feeling it's going to be in the FI sensors, or watered down gas.  When you get into diagnosing those, get back with me.  I can get the voltage/current specs for all the sensors if you start manually testing them.  It sure would be easy if you had a pod hooked up

Yep. Chris flushed the oil and gas and put seafoam in the cylinder and let it soak, and then it fired up and rung good.

All the important stuff goes into my inclosed trailer to be worked on

I will accept any donations for the get Chris a shop foundation........ Donations include cash, check, paypal, money order or beer!!!

Yep it fired right up after changing the oil and dowsing the cylinder with some sea foam.... I'm guessing it had a stuck ring.... I'm just happy that it was a simple fix. I always try and do the simple things first and then move into tearing crap aprart in my yard stages.
