I ahve a buddy looking to buy a used exployer locally and I had no idea about this bike. Just wanted some feedback from the board. He is getting it for 750. Has new brakes and  master cylinder. The only problem is the bike runs in the low gear unless you hold down the overdrive switch. I figured this can be fixed. Any input would be much appreciated.

A running bike for $750 is not a bad deal in my eyes.  Just be prepared to work on it often since it is not "new"

The low gear and over ride switch is an easy fix.  The problem is a worn plate in the shifter box at the bottom of the shift rod.  

Great machine but it has three chains on it that do need alot of maint.

Two stroke motor so it does not have alot of low end torque but they are fun to ride and peppy when in the pipe.

Better make sure the oil injection system is working properly.   You can go the premix route but these are some things that need to be purchased from the aftermarket to do this.   I just recomend having it fixed if it is not working properly.

If he is going to be running in alot of water then the first thing I would do is to fill the CVt system with clean water and check it for leaks and fix them.   Then get some parts at the local plumbing supply store to replace the CVT outlet and route it to a higher location such as just below the headlight area under the front plastic.  This is because the exhaust is real low on these machines  (just in front of and below your left knee when sitting on it.

My buddy just brought the bike by and for 750 I think he got a deal. The bike does 60 with no problems
but the problem is with the overdrive button. He has to hold it down to go in frwd or rev. Can we just tie in the 2 wires where they stay connected? Also what size tires can he run in this bike? 26 27? I noticed the narrow space between the tire and strut so Im assuming he will need aftermarket wheels to run anything. I guess we will try and find a manuel for this bike so he can keep it lubed. Tnanks in advance for any feedback

It all depends on how wide of a tire and what kind of tire.   27s will rub the fenders on that old style plastic.

You will most likely need to run spacers on the front or aftermarket wheels if going with a tire wider then 8 inches in the front.

I don't recomend bypassing the over ride button if other people are going to ride it because these things will go pretty good in reverse with the over ride bypassed and it is extremely dangerous.   I have seen many machines flipped because of this and people with broken bones etc.
