Just tried the 29.5 Laws out for the first time this weekend and they are awesome. But If I am in some really sticky stuff, I just cant get the tires to really spin. I can still dig and keep moving but cant get much more than 1/4 throttle until I get out of the really sticky stuff. Then I can turn them fine. I cant drop $200 on a full HL or EPI clutch kit after dropping the $ for the Laws. I dont know if doing that whole kit is what I need. Changing the weights/rollers are way cheaper. But what weight to swap for? All or some weights? I have heard and read of swapping the 700 weights for Kodiak/Grizzly 400/450 weights. Anyone made this swap?  any insight?

I been hearing a few people talk about just changing the weights. Even the guy at the Yamaha Parts counter told me he had sold a few sets of weights from a Grizzly 400 to go intoa a Rhino 700.

I have read quite a bit about this also, but I only have 26" Swamp foxes. I am going today and order some 450 weights (4) and try it out. Suppose to make a big difference. I was out last weekend and had to use low gear going through a river that on my last quad would do it in high no problem. Also raced a 650 V2 cat (both stock)and wasnt really happy with the outcome, I beat him but only by about a quad.

you can pick up a set of factory 450 weights for about $40, only change half of them out. then go to epi's website and pick yourself up a spring $20. now you have yourself a clutch kit for under $100.

I have 8 Kodiak 400 weights in my Grizzly 700, runnin' 29.5 OutLaws and it turns them with no problems.  Don't waste your money on a secondary spring from EPI.  The Grizzly 700 already has a stronger secondary spring.  I wouldn't waste my money on a clutch kit.  I got the 8 Kodiak 400 weights for $32.

For (4) 29.5x12x12 Outlalws, I would recommend the full clutch kit.  It takes more to turn 4 12's vs 2-12's and 2-10's or (4) 10's.

Order the sheeve and add all 8 2000 model 400 Kodiak weights and your good to go. May even gain some on top.

Sheeve? Lol, I am a newby to CVT's. I understand their function etc. but where can I buy a new sheave and what will its purpose be? Got any part #'s for the Kodiak weights?

I read the same thing about the spring on Dalton Industries web page. They sell their kit for $105. I bought 8 of the Grizzly 400 weights. Same part number as the Kodiak 450 weights. go figure. got all 8 plus some hand grips for $50 tax and all. I wont be able to get them installed til mid next week. I will post the results. Thanks guys.

Oh the part num for the weights is 5gh-17632-00-00.

I would like to know more about this sheave mod though.

do not put sll 8 of the weights in. i put all eight in my bike at first and it was crap. it reved way high and i ost major top end. changed them out to just 4 factory 700 and 4 of the kodiak 400 weights and it ran alot better (wheelie machine). This is with 28 outlaws. I then got some 29 outlaws and lost some of the low end torque, thats when I change the secondary spring and i gained it back (wheelies in high now problem). I changed the weights on my fiance's 700 with 28 outlaws (no spring yet) and she loves how it is now a wheelie machine.

Soooooooo.... if I go with (4) of the 450/400 weights, then, with my set-up.... I should see an increase on my bottom end??

which sheave?  I may order an EPI spring and change out half my weights.  I don't know yet.  I may do nothing at all.

he is talking about the fix sheave off of ebay. it has been machined to where the belt rides higher in the primary. (i think)

that would just give you more top end, not low end.  Don't they also machine the slot the weights ride in, so they'll move farther out in the sheave?  I know the Grizzly 700 already comes stock with a stronger secondary spring, so which EPI spring should I get to give me more low end?
